Here's my choice for this build. The POS AMT Charger kit that's good for nothing, now good for something. Razz
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf4818

Poor quality kit, needs a lot of TLC to make it any good. Casting was not very "professional" as there is air bubbles, and SCRATCHES galore. So what the hell, let's cut it up. Twisted Evil

My idea is to keep the turrets, and kind of move them up a bit, just like a ute.
Got a lot of work ahead of me, so I'll keep you posted. Smile

Good to see you've made a start Adam.
This kit is basically the MPC General Lee with a few different parts so if you wanted to make it a '69 (and can find the parts) it wouldn't be too hard.
Does it still have the American Racing Vector wheels or did they leave them out?

Every single person I know that has as much as seen one of these kits open, says how much of a POS it is. Good to see you making something good out of it, well done Adam.

Alright guys, a bit of an update. Things are kind of shaping out how I'd like them to be. Charger behind is a standard Fast & furious body and the one in front is my chopped and hacked one.

Now that's what i'm talking about.

If you rake the 'screen rather than chop it you won't have to risk cutting the "glass".  You will however have another cut across the roof to deal with so it's horses for courses.

That'd mean cutting the sides off the "glass".
I'd try to leave the quarterlights and rake them with the windscreen.

Post by Adam Clark Sat 07 Sep 2013, 9:21 pm

Hey there all, thought I had better put up some progress pics as it's been a long time. byebye
Not as much progress as I'd like, as the roof just won't come right.
What I have got done though includes
Raked the front windscreen so the roof sat lower (Which also meant cut and shut the roof...again.)
Cutting up a tray to fit in the back, which meant I had to "cut and shut" it.
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf4910
Started detailing the engine, I had thought of a standard V8 config, Decided to upgrade to throttle body injection.
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf4911
And, when I get bored, I like to challenge myself by making small detailed things, so tonights boredom led to a Jerry can that's a little underscale, oh well it can be a water bottle. Razz
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf4912
So yeah, hopefully I can get the roof right so I can progress a bit further with the damn thing.

Yeah, I'm still going with this thing. Slowly but surely.

I've managed to put a parcel shelf and back window in, lots of small things to get everything to line up smoothly.
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5117

GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5118

Interior is practically done, just the dash to put in.
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5110
And the engine, unforunately didn't sit all the way under the bonnet, so I had to get a blade and do some work Rolling Eyes
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5111

Found a GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE 3136408634 scoop in the stash and fiddled around with that.
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5112
Currently it sits too far down at the front, so I had to lift it up a little

Started by outlining the hood on a flat bit of plastic and marked out 1mm inside of the edge.
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5113
Cut out the center and ended up with the outline
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5114
Then to get the front lifted to look more Mopar style, I cut a lip for the front of the scoop
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5115
There we go, roughly how it should look.
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5116

I have puttied around the outside to smooth it out. Just need to let it dry and sand away. But I'm getting there! Smile

Slowly & surely is the only way to build something like this. If you get stuck or lose interest put it aside until inspiration strikes.

Good job. The inside of the tub looks great.

Cheers Zen,

A little more of an update. Manage to mold the scoop to the hood, doesn't look to bad.
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5119
Also cut the rear panel/boot from the original cuttings and made a tailgate to look the part of a ute
GAS #16 1970 Charger UTE Dscf5120
And you guys should know by now, that I like to challenge myself with fiddly details, so here's my latest creation to throw in the tray at the end. A fully SCRATCH BUILT Cylinder head. Very Happy
