1974 Range Rover Convertible Ute
So they say a picture says a thousand words, so I'll let the pictures do most of the talking!
This is how we found it, hadn't been registered for 10 years, hadn't run for at least 6 years.
The decent looking Rangie in the background is my Dad's car (1989 4 door), the farmer I bought the 2 door off is getting ready to pull the 2 door up the hill with a tractor for us, nice bloke!
Well not long after I got it home it looked like this. It still looks about the same but with the trans tunnel removed to get ready for transmission removal and with some 31x10.5x15 tyres on resized 15x7 factory Rostyle steel wheels.
I am trying to keep it organised, 100 labelled ziploc bags, pushrods numbered and wrapped in that plastic bag, head bolts are now also tagged n bagged.
Well I was just about to make the first of many parts orders from the UK when I stumbled on a very clean 1986-87 4 door not far from home. And now that will be my next purchase, which will be number 4 Range Rover in the driveway. We have an `88 which is my Dad's project but as he has a sailing boat and a 1978 Yamaha 650XS to care for as well, I'll probably have my 2 door finished just in time for him to pass on the responsibility of his `88 to me.... As I'm doing almost all of the work on the 2 door by myself it will take a while and hopefully our work picks up soon so I can finally get the parts coming in.
Here's a shot of Dad's cars.
Cheers!

Not much left when you strip all the skin off 'em!
Do the RR's have aluminium doors and fenders like the Defenders?

Me either Al, never met anyone that liked them.allan wrote:Never seen one of these been rebuilt.
Major tear down, labelling bits at this stage is smart as it makes the putting back together so much easier.
Good luck with the rebuild.

These have aluminium door skins, guards, quarter panels, cowl, roof, grille, engine block and heads, bellhousing, gearbox and transfer box casing, most have an aluminium rear floor which was later changed to a plastic floor in the 80s. Steel panels only consist of the bonnet, inner guards/wings, door frames, tailgates and the panels behind the taillights. Obviously the 'skeleton' that is left of mine now is all steel. You could get fibreglass bonnets and lower tailgates for the early 2 doors and you can also get aluminium or stainless steel upper tailgates through aftermarket suppliers now.70cudatj wrote:Not much left when you strip all the skin off 'em!
