Here's a couple of photos of a 49 Mercury ute conversion I've just finished.  It's been an on again off again project for a few years now and I finally got sick of looking at it on the shelf so decided to get on and complete it. Paint is done with a purple crackle nail polish with clear over the top.

It's a home made conversion that I ended up moulding and casting up, the actual model is resin.

Thanks guys for the comments. Reckon I'm going to try another lot of this crackle polish, only with a candy over the top this time round.

That looks like it was a big job. You should add a 55 Ford front end on to one of those. make it a Mainline.
that paint is whacky. I like the rims too

"You should add a 55 Ford front end on to one of those. make it a Mainline"

Why bother, I did the 56-57 Mainline conversion around 10 years ago. The photos below was the first out of the moulds.

Nice work on both models, that paint is far out.

Does it crack up like that as it is applied, as it dries, or is there a special technique?

No special techs, simply apply one coat with the brush supplied in the bottle and as it dries, that is the result. I made sure that all brush strokes were in the same direction though. Because the surface is rough when dry, there needs to be quite a few coats of clear applied and then polished out to give that looking into water affect.

They're an old set I found in the spares box, exactly what they're off of I can't remember, but do know by the tyres and backing plates that it's one of the old Monogram kits before Revell took them over. The plastic is red under the chrome and for some unknown reason a Corvette keeps flashing through the mind.
