Restored Big Rod
After seeing some of the 1/8th scale posts lately I decided to get in and finish the restoration of a Monogram Big Rod model given to me some time ago.
I was handed a plastic shopping bag with the hulk of the model in it and a myriad of parts that had fallen off over the years. Needless to say the chrome was shot and the model had been painted in automotive metallic mauve way back.
I completely stripped the car and began the process. The 4 bars were all bent and one was broken so I used the ends of them in 1/8th inch Aluminium tubing. The front axle 4 bar mounts needed a fair bit of repair as you can see. What was left of the chrome was stripped and redone in Alclad although I am yet to fully master this stuff. The rear wheels were done in a polished aluminium finish to simulate the machine finish of the American racing wheels.
Tamiya yellow was use over white primer on the body and chassis. I decided to use paint on the front suspension instead of Alclad.
Anyway, here is the finished rod

Re: Restored Big Rod
Awsome...bloody awsome. So just how big is this model (in mm). And I love the colour, is there really any other colour that sums up hot rods as well as bright yellow. Fantastic work mate.

Re: Restored Big Rod
Senastional work Chris. I wish I had kept the broken parts from my old "BIG Drag" model now, because looking at your restoration is just mind boggling stuff. Oh well it may be re-released on day?
