Re: Peterbilt logger
Got the bonnet resprayed, some tail lights done and hub caps on drive. Once bonnet dries I'll mask out and do the blue. Interior just about ready to put together.

Re: Peterbilt logger
Ever so slowly this project moves forward. Have all the colour on the cab and bonnet and have started pinstriping.
The cab is just sitting on loose at this stage. Have ordered decals for the doors so not much more to happen here until they come along.
That little bit of cream showing under the pinstripe behind the wheel is a right PITA! Didn't notice before, teach me to keep my eyes on my fries. Have stripped the kit chrome off the grill, headlights, marker lights etc and will repaint. Might give Chromebrite a try and see how they come up. Once the interior is in hopefully the cab will sit more level. Going to have a crack at making mirror arms and brackets from brass rod - mainly as I can't find the originals! Have also painted the hubs on the jinker . Planning to run a single sooter up the LHS.

Re: Peterbilt logger
Sprayed the grill and headlights using rattle can chrome decanted into the airbrush. I'm happy with how it came out. Probably not as shiny as Alclad can be but it suits the look i'm after.
I might give it a second coat to see if it makes a difference. Still waiting for decals and headlights for this. Once they're on, clear coat and put it all together. Hope decals come soon!!!

Re: Peterbilt logger
Managed to sneak in a bit of time at the bench for about the second time this year. The kit windows were pretty knackered so I'm having a go at cutting new ones myself. Would be a lot easier with rod to act as window rubbers - next time Gadget next time! Surprising how much variation there is in the kit molding when you try to put a nice flat piece of plastic in! Got the bumper painted and masked for chevrons.
Going to use the cab white for the stripes.

Re: Peterbilt logger
Got a sneaky couple of hours at the desk this arvo. Managed to get the bumper, blinkers and bonnet on.
Still managed to get the little lips in the paint where the masking was even though i removed it while the paint was still wet. It was hot when I did it so maybe???? Should I try a very light/fine sanding or keep my fat fingers off it? Got tail lights and mudflaps on the jinker too.
Hope to knock this over shortly - its been a looooong time.

Re: Peterbilt logger
That's looking great, the only way to get rid of those ridges on the bumper, would be to clear coat it a couple of times,
lightly block it, then re-clear it, block it again, and depending on how bad or good they are, more clear if needed....
It is frustrating when doing multi colors, but this is how i deal with it mate.

Re: Peterbilt logger
Apart from the air horn, I'm going to call this one finished. Somehow managed to forget to paint the air horn when I repainted all the other chrome.
I'll add the front badge when I either find a decent decal or take a brave pill and have a go at painting it.
The photo etch dogs were a right PITA to do. Bugger of a spot and the damn things work too well. When I tightened them down they actually pulled the links in the chain apart which caused it all to come apart. Need more practice with them though. Mushrooming the head of the pin over enough to allow the dog to fully close is a very fine line between not allowing it to shut or have the pin drop out. I settled for not fully shut.
Close up photos tend to show all the faults, I'm not going to point them out but I'm sure we all see them !
I used a length of fine rubber for the airlines. Had trouble finding something I liked that didn't need painting and rolled up somewhat realistically. It's taken a lot longer than I thought but turned out pretty much as I'd hoped. Built in memory of my Pa, his name on the door. He never had trucks but helped Dad into his. He was never flashy but everything was always just so.
Thanks for your kind words during the build gents, muchly appreciated.
