Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Thanks for the pic Allan ! Your wagon looks awesome...man, that makes me wish I still had my old SL...it's a pity they never made it to the States...!
So, do you think I should add a bit more slope to the center portion or just leave it as it is? I've also noticed that when I take pictures, depending on the angles and distance, some parts look out of scale as compared to a shot of the entire car. Or maybe I should wait until I prime it and then lay down a guide coat on the body, then I should see any issues clearer?

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
pretty sure they were available in the states, I read a letter to the editor in a US model train magazine, the writer was complaining about all the adds in the magazine and said something like its bad enough that they have automobile adds in a model train mag but its worse that they are advertising non American cars like Holden, so im guessing that u could get them if u knew where to find them.

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Really? I have been googling for Holden cars in the U.S. For a while now, and have only come across 2 articles to date..
-one guy in Texas who had a HQ Monaro and another somewhere in the Midwest who found a HQ ute in scrap yard that had the front damaged. I thought that they may have been brought over by expats and eventually sold off....Still it's good to know...I will keep searching...who knows ...one may turn up right here in the city...lol!

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Holden has been selling its cars over there badged as Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, even Caddy, but most were Chevy. The Commodore badged as Chevy Lumia and Pontiac Grand Prix, The Commodore shape Monaro sold as Pontiac GTO. I sold the wagon two days after I took the photo it had a 202 in line six.

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Hey guys...another small update lol..!
Yup...still at it...
Tweaked the top center area of the nose panel a bit...got it to slope a bit more like it should...will probably have to tweak it again after some primer and a guide coat of paint...:
Completed the front indicators and did a quick lens on one side to see how it looks...getting there sloooowly...lol!
Finally repaired the front stone shield as well...
Think I'll make the rear bumpers next then have a go at the upper tailgate....thinking about repairing it, but will probably just rebuild it (the upper tailgate) will probably be easier...ha!
Anywho....some pics...watcha think?

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Oh one thing with the front blinker light lens the sould be two little plastic chrome strips, they are missing from my wagon lens as they were pinched by people who resell them to one restoring old Holden's or most times the just fall off Over all the van is looking great.

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Yep...I noticed the strips, but couldn't figure out if they were on the lens itself or behind them...couldn't remember how my SL was made up...lol.
Are these strips thinner than the chrome strip that goes around the assembly? Or are they the same size? The lens in the pic was just a quick test to see if the assembly looked right...there was too much white to really tell at first ...! Lol...

They were about the same size, for the orange lens, paint it Tamiya chrome silver than put Tamiya clear orange over the silver.

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Hey guys, another small :update:
Got the rear bumpers done...had to make a slot to fit around the tailgate hinges outs slightly different than the 1:1 bumper...
Also started to rebuild the upper tailgate, you can see how much the original one warped in the last pics... . I think it's because I used too much bondene on it :lolbeat:... The tricky part is figuring out how to make the window area as its angled a bit and recessed into the tailgate...will probably try to build that area separate from the tailgate then attach it, so as to limit the amount of the bondene on the tailgate. Hopefully it will work out...:lolbeat:
I think I will also re-do the hinges, using tubes similar to the set up on the bucket seats...
Anywho...some pics...
The 1:1 bumpers...pretty close I think...lol!

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Made a lil progress with the upper tailgate...
Made it hollow with supporting ribs instead of solid like the first one, where I just slapped the layers together. This new way I used a lot less bondene, so hopefully it will maintain the shape!
Still need to 'close up' the inner and outer piece where the window goes and then make the window. Will have another go at some hinges and try to get the struts built as well...
Anywho... Coupla pics.. fits nice and flush ....

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
Another small update
Worked on the front slope above the windshield. Getting there I think...
Still need to properly round off the corners, but need to let the new piece cure properly then re-enforce the inside of the corners before filing them down...
Once that is done, I'll have to properly line up the front of the green piece, the make the adjustments to the rear of the panels and the tailgate...
Some pics ...before and after...lol...watcha think?

Hey guys....another small update..! :sht:
Yeah...I know I been slacking a bit lately...(for the past 2 years..) ha!
Anywho...got the front area above the windshield rounded off...still need to tidy up the lip area where the top of the windshield goes...also managed to add in the strip at the rear of the side panel so it's not sloping forward as much as it was before...
Did a bit of cleaning up on the right side, puttied some parts, still need to work on it some more...

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
So...anywho.....before I could complete the tailgate area, I needed to get the upper tailgate hinged up and install the struts..
After lotsa head scratching, this is what I came up with....:p
Edit - gonna try to mod the hinge pin so that I can remove the tailgate (after the roof has been sealed in) in case the hinge gets damaged and I need to repair it...
The strut still needs some tweaking, as this is as high as it will hold the tailgate up......
It has the proper travel length, just need to make some adjustments so it holds it up at this level...
I tried to get the hinges and struts as close as I could get it to the 1:1.... Maybe 60% there...lol...but I think I can live with it...:p
And how it looks in the closed position....

Re: Holden HX Overlander Panelvan
That is just freakin' AWESOME mate. The hinges are superb i think, and all the little refinements you have done,
like above the windshield, are really making this just so RIGHT. More very nice scratch building.
