How to make a mexican blanket
This is from a page on how to make a realistic Mexican blanket, good for seat covers etc, I was put onto it by a fella on the Australian Automotive Model Builders facebook page after seeing it done on a rat rod.
It has no text, I worked out how it was done by the pictures.
The stuff you will need, he uses just normal tape, I used double sided tape so I can stick it to the seats, you can get it from office works, Bunnings, bargain shops, not the sponge one.
The tread I used is from a bargain shop, its a bit thicker, you get packs with about 8 different colours for a couple of bucks, its got craft thread written on the black bits, susss out which thread you use, I tried one that looks heaps like this one but was a bit fluffy and I didn't like to stick to the tape.
This is the double sided tape he is using on the ends for the white.
Once you are finished the blanket the size you need and its all trimmed up, just peal off the backing to the tape and stick it to the seat of what ever you want blanketed.
This was my test one on a spare seat.
I used it for the seat cover look, I used flocking on the sides and back of the front seats.
I going to give the thinner thread a try to see how it works out, but I know its going to take much longer
Hope this helps, glade I tried this, it gives a lot more options on trims.

Re: How to make a mexican blanket
I used this thread on the front seat of my 40 pick up, AWESOME, i was thinking of trying the blanket with that thread,
and now i know how it is done, i was going to use white glue and lay it on the seat as i went....
Thanks Morrie..

Re: How to make a mexican blanket
A simpler, quicker but ultimately less realistic way is to find a picture of a mexican blanket on the interweb and print it onto kitchen roll.
The trick is that to print onto the paper towel you have to cut bits up and stick them onto plain paper with sticky tape.
