Re: Kenworth Aerodyne
Haven't been able to get much bench time recently but have been moving along slowly
A combination of spares and scratch built to make a lazy axle. As it's under the body it should be fine. Made up a subframe for the tow body to sit on to lift it a touch higher than the 1 that came with the body.
.
The pink section to the left of the tank bracket is a 30mm piece I had to add so that I could fit the tanks on and get the aircleaners and exhausts between the cab and body.
I replaced the kit front axle with 2 white metal ones from KFS mainly for a uniform look. Scratch built some steering linkages and put the battery boxes between the front axles, mainly cause there was no where else to put them. The aircleaner barrels will be fixed into place once I make up some new cab mounts - the old ones are busted.
So this is it all sat together to get an idea of how it was shaping up.
I'm using some of the Auslowe upgrade sets on this build. The headlight and quarter panels are 1. This gives individual headlight buckets. Also using the cab mounts and aircleaner sets. It's taking a bit of sorting out with the stretched cab but would be pretty easy on a standard cab I'd think.

Re: Kenworth Aerodyne
Chassis has been painted and other parts primed. Chrome paint on rims wasn't what I'd hoped for so will have to redo them - plenty to redo Have been getting some paint & polishing tips from Dee Cee so the cab has gone back onto the work bench for some more prep work. I'll add some pics soon.

Re: Kenworth Aerodyne
Base colour on .
Masked out. Based on Kenworth's factory scheme - Potomac.I changed the front a little and will only use 2 colours where the diagrams for it show 3.
Chassis is pretty much done except for mudflaps and the like. Still working on the wrecker body, changing taillights as I didn't get the kit ones. Pinstriping on the cab next and then extend the interior tub to fit.

Re: Kenworth Aerodyne
Thanks Al. Been working on the tow body and towing gear.
The kit taillights didn't come with the kit so I decided to come up with something else.
I cut out the recesses, blanked them off and made the new housings. I also sanded the chequer plate detail off the angled edges of the body for a neater look.
Had to change the bracing underneath to get it to sit at the height I wanted.
Started putting the pinstripes on, waiting for the door decals to turn up.

Re: Kenworth Aerodyne
Finding bench time is the killer Al. Still have to modify the interior to fit the big cab so not doing too much detailing until I have that sorted.

Re: Kenworth Aerodyne
I'm finally going to call this done. Lots of things I'd do differently next time but also lots of stuff on here tried for the first time so all in all pretty happy with the result.
Couple of shots of the interior. Didn't detail the whole thing as I hung a curtain in the middle to block the line of sight.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who took an interest in this build.

Totally awesome, this is one of the nicest rigs I have ever seen. There appears to be a lot of aluminium pieces in this, yes? From where did you acquire the mirrors and hand rail brackets from please. Is your grill surrounding milled aluminium? I've just had one done for myself & I've added a CTM PE grill screen, a huge improvement over the kit piece. Once again, totally awesome.

Re: Kenworth Aerodyne
Thanks very much Yahshu. The mirror heads are kit ones but I can't recall what kit, they are a 2 piece assembly. I made the brackets from aluminium tube. The hand rails are an aluminium job from Auslowe. The grill surround is the plastic kit one with mesh insert from Auslowe, all painted in Alclad. I polished the mirror brackets and handrails.
