Oz, no harm done man, I was jus' kiddin' with ya.....
Thanks for the kind words mate. Yes....the building part is getting nearer.....
Thank you too Slowly and Sports850..You'll have to be patient just a while longer guys..........................promise.
Tezza and Kirk....Nah, ALL model I'm afraid guys....
We had a heap of potplants go missing last night.......was that you Tubbs..............
Nup, you've missed nothing on the interior mate.. I'm diggin' the idea of the ashtray though.....hmmmm..
I have a special treat or two lined up for there.....
Tim, thanks for your very kind words man.
Steve, she's actually all done....I'm just spreading the pics out for you's....... (just kidding, of course...)
I think you're probably right though...most 1:1 builds don't drag out like this......
Thanks heaps guys, I'm really glad you're digging it as much as I am....it's been fun so far...and the ride ain't done yet.....

Ssssh......don't tell anyone Fred, but I have a large area covered with that green artificial outdoor carpet.....got it all marked out in white squares too...by zenrat Yesterday at 14:00
If it is a 1:1 then that's a bloody big cutting mat.

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Well...nearly time to drag the Datto out again an dust her off.......
Got word yesterday that the wheels an tyres are ready....
I will have a "test" sample of each within the next day or two and will post pics of what they look like in real rubber and resin.
Once I give you a look, and I'm satisfied they meet my standards..I'll disclose pricing......for those interested of course..
cheers
Greg

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Ok.....so that took a little longer than expected.....
Here we go.....................................
Tyres.....These look absolutely fabulous in my mind....just as I had envisioned, only better.
Clean up will be limited....just a scuff up of the tread area and some trimming of minor flash on one side...pretty darn good.
Rims.....again, out of the box, these look WICKED (though, I am biased... )
Minimal clean up again, mainly the inside of the outer rim half, it has some flash that will need trimming.
The spokes will clean out easy.
Cast in two piece, it will make painting-foiling-allcladding easy too.
These will also fit well under the 1/12 Camaro's....maybe even the Mustangs......??
Hit me up if you want more info regarding cost and availability..
Oh, they will also come with 4 beautifully turned aluminium valve stems from Robert @ RBMotion..
Cheers guys
Greg
Pics fixed....... Sorry guys.....darn Fotki messin about with settings....

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Well, I now have everything required to go with my wheel sets....
These gorgeous turned aluminium valve stems arrived the other day from Rob A RBMotion...
A length of hex rod will also be included to add bolt/stud detail, for those not wishing to add real studs/nuts..
Packaged, ready to go......
First set are off to the UK tomorrow....several more to follow, plus the Netherlands......
Mocked up under the Datto.....
And I had a few requests to see them under other cars...I reckon they suit the big Camaro pretty good....
Hit me up at gregarmour@westnet.com.au if you would like more info on them.
cheers guys

You know what you should do on one of those valves is file the top down to resemble a missing cap and see if anyone notices...

Not a bad idea Fred.....I'll see what I can do.zenrat wrote:

Man, what a hectic holiday season thus far.... Had a bit of a family gathering for Xmas and half of us ended up crook, Mum and another relo had 3 nights in hospital...
Thankfully it all ended well and most have returned home now.....back to peace and quiet......
The break (still on hols till next Monday ) has been good and I finally got motivated to get back to the bench....
So, the Datto has once again been dusted off. I really need to get a riggle on as I now have 2 more 1/12 kits in transit. Porsche and Mercedes....
I got about making a duck-tail style rear spoiler for the hatch...pretty basic sheet plastic and Tamiya 2-part putty.
Mocked up on the hatch. It will bolt on from beneath, as on the real cars..
I looked towards the interior next....figured I better get something going here...
Tamiya supply a beaut fully molded rubber-like interior tubb, but that looked too easy....so, off to the net once more.....
Several descent pics were found showing cars in various stages of dis-assembly....all good reference for a "gutted" interior.
I know I went a little crazy swiss cheesing the sils....it's for weight saving..(that's my excuse and I'm standing firm... )
Driver side foot well panel in as well, again, the holes are not correct.....but they will suit the final result.
Before the rear inner panels can go in, I need to tidy up the hatch floor...A new boxed in section was formed up, the "lids" will be left off..
Again, all to save weight..... This area is usually covered by vinyl or carpet..(Tamiya's interior was molded in...)
I finished adding the final sections this arvo, they will all get the seams filled and sanded tomorrow.....
More soon guys..
cheers
Greg

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Greg, this is one heck of a build and it's got me so worked up that I think I'll have to box up all my 1/24th gear to start work on my safari car, I have strip it down again and unfortunately broken a few of the plastic parts like the intake manifold for the webers oh well just have to get some metal and try and build a new one hey. Next month I'll have the money all got together so I can buy those rims & tyres of Ya like I said, still have U'r details it will be somewhere round the 4th of march when I'll get it on it's way to U. other than that I'm following this build like everyone else with baited breath to see what happens next, it's simply awesome and like evryone else can't wait not only for the motor build but the completion of the whole car, I'm sure if the key gets turned it will fire up.

I can't believe I've been following this build for nearly one year now, but it has been worth while. The detail work is simply awesome!

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Thanks so much guys......
Yes....I had a double take when I realised it's been bench hugging for 12 months.......
Well, the interior is mostly done...added a full cage (took two attempts to get the front bars to clear the dash..)
Also added full side inner panels to the rear...
Being pretty satisfied with that, I turned to the motor.........
It was shipped out to the engine builder for a strip down..........Not good news I'm afraid..... A blown head gasket and a warped head...
The apprentice arrived back at the shop with one of these new fangled OS Giken Twin-Cam heads under his arm.....
Exhaust port side. The holes along the top edge are for the water distribution lines, they will have tiny bolts holding it all in place..
And a side by side comparison between stock and the new head. Height is kept pretty close to original.....
Work has continued on a rocker cover...nearing completion. Also started on some inlet manifold pieces....these will suit Webber carbs OR a turbo set-up...
More soon guys..
cheers
