Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Thanks Paul, Tom, Tubbs, Slowly and Dingo...
Dingo, yeah mate....got a bunch of elves out back now, toiling away....they don't eat much, cause they're so small....
Sorting the hand brake was probably the most challenging aspect so far.....took more than a handfull of attempts to get it like I wanted... :|
Anybody up for an update..............?
I have mounted the fuel tank, real strips of aluminium hold it in, secured with tiny bolts.
The fuel outlet hose is just visible too, it has been blocked off with a bolt as it won't be used...just thought it'd be kool to leave it in place..
And I got to making my aftermarket style electric fuel pump, along with duel in-line filters...All made from styrene tube, sheet and hex rod.
The pump is tapped to accept tiny bolts when it goes in...for the electrical wiring....
Red hex fittings are some old Modellers brand, but I have some new Detail Master items on the way to replace them..
Today I started laying in the brake lines....(yep, you may notice the absence of suspension, it will be last...)
I made several tiny brackets to hold the lines in place.....what fun that was......
Along the tunnel as well......
The flexible braided lines will attach to the hard-line already fitted, and to the brake backs. I'll paint the flex black..
I also made up the brake proportioning valve and switch, these both go in the engine bay next fitting.....
That's it for now guys....got a few more hours spare tomorrow, so ya never know......
cheers
Greg

Greg.........I'm bringing my wife (Psychologist)to the QMHE with me, she has some paperwork for you to fill out, then a van with men in white coats will pay you a visit, what size jacket do you take? Awesome as usual.

As always Greg, nice work! It amazes me how you get so much detail in there AND for it to look so realistic!

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Just when it seems it can't get any more unbelieveable...
Shouldn't there be washers under the bolts on the brake line clips...

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Thanks so much Tubman, Bear, Tom, Fred and Slowly....
Hey Tubbs....might be an idea Can you make it an XXL please, I don't like things too tight....oh wait, that's the idea isn't it....
Fred........I HAVE washers........................ ..........ol' stupid here, just forgot all about them til I read your post....
And just a quik written update............
I got so caught up in making all the lines, the distribution/proportioning valves etc......I then looked closely at the engine bay.....
Something is missing............................
So, I spent some time Sunday making this something................Pics soon.
It required a partial strip down/sanding of paint...and will require a touch up again, now that it's in.......No tips, but it looked quite bare without it...

Master cylinder?
Or engine
It is easy to focus on the fine detail and miss things out. That's why the Redback ended up with no front brakes.

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
your all wrong, let me enlighten you all, if you hadn't noticed the previous amount of detail then this would be what he's talking about just to outline a couple of things.
Valves,valve spings,pushrods,head gasket, pistons,rings,conrods,bearings,crank,flywheel,timing chain,timing gears,ETC.
that was just a basic rundown,I'm sure you all can figure out the rest.

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
Um...well, some hits in the right area........firewall. Maybe it's not as big an omission as I'd thought....
Rocket, I added all those things, just forgot to get pics...............
Ozbuilder, nah...no hidden servo's this time....great idea though.
Well, I have got the two distribution blocks ready to go in, the top one, which mounts on the inner fender, has two very tiny holes, ready to
accept some electrical hook up....
BUT......before I could go and glue/bolt them in place, that's when I decided to add the missing part.
Ya'see, I had to strip some paint, add this thing, and re-paint today hopefully.....THEN I can add the brake parts.....
The striker plate is cut from aluminium, I'll remove that before applying paint.
Sorry, that's all that the cryptic clues were all about........... Not that much of a deal, I know.....but it will make the firewall look more complete..
I've just finished some final detail on the firewall this minute...need some glue to take up, give it an undercoat, and paint this arv......
Also just finished mounting the fuel pump on an aluminium bracket, it's then mounted to part of the rear suspension cradle....Pics on that later.
I'm waiting on an order from Detail Master with some new AN fittings, then I can complete the fuel system as well.....
cheers guys
Greg

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Datto 240ZG with "options"
You're getting ahead of me Oz.... but it is under consideration....(- been thinking of a way to make it happen.....) I'll get back to ya..OZBUILDER wrote:Jesus christ, of course. The first and last item used when opening and closing the bonnet. Now how to make it work.... ha ha just kidding.
Thanks Oz, Paul and Greg ..
Minor update......
I did manage a squirt of painting the other day....got the latch covered, also added the two brake blocks to the engine bay area.....
The brake hook-up front to rear is complete, and the fuel return line is rigged up as well....
Bottom view, same area.......
Electric fuel pump mounted on an aluminium bracket, in turn, mounted on the suspension cradle....
Wiring attached and fuel lines/filters all fitted up.....
My order of new AN fittings arrived............. but ol'fufus here...ordered the wrong size...................
So, I stayed with the red Modellers ones....I tapped the ends with a countersunk bit, to give the braid an area to fit into....
These were my second attempt........
Man....is there a trick to using braided lines.....? I had a hell of a time getting these to look ok..... :|
My first lot were unsatisfying.....to say the least.
I added a drop of superglue at the ends, to help the braid lay down, but it flattened and looked bloody horrible...... :|
I'm a little happier with what I have now.....See below...
The first attempt also used some older braid.....Does it go off........................
Nah, didn't think so......but I used newer stuff second time around......
That's all for now guys....Stay tuned.
I'll add the rest of the brake lines next, but probably not till the weekend....I'm usually too screwed thru the week......
cheers
Greg

I'm seriously beginning to wonder if it is the real car I'm looking at now? Are you sure you're showing us photos of a model?

If it is a 1:1 then that's a bloody big cutting mat.
Haven't you finished this yet Stump?
Have I missed you doing the interior or is that to come (working cigarette lighter, full ashtray, working inertia reel seatbelts...)?
Joking aside I once did a 1/25 ute with an overflowing ashtray - painted wire offcuts make for perfect butts.
