This is Signature's 1941 Packard Darrin 180 Convertible in 1:18 scale. It's a beautiful diecast model loaded with detail and interest. Darrin's smooth styling is easy to appreciate. The only downer is there's so much detail in the engine bay but it can hardly be seen. Otherwise it's an excellent model.

For the camera buffs the pictures were taken with a Panasonic Lumix FZ28 of 10 Mega Pixels. The photos were shot outdoors late afternoon on white card and then colour corrected in Photoshop.

That is one slick piece of gear, not my cuppa but very cool. The only thing that bothers me with diecasts is they can manage all the beautiful fine detail stuff with acuracy but they all have big chunky hinges on all openings, why is this, surely they can replicate a boot hinge. Just my2cents

Nice looking ride Tezza, pix look great too.

And Tubman I think the hinges are chunky so that the heavy handed collectors and kids don't destroy the things.

Sorta figured that but you would think that with the prices some of these things are, the manufactures would take the chance that a collector would for one not let a kid near it and two, he would handle with care. I know some of these diecast panels are bloody heavy but some of these hinges are just down right ugly.
Sorry for highjacking your thread Tezza, I'm in no way having a go at you car just diecasts in general.

Smooth looking car.
So the bonnet side panels don't come off then?

Unfortunately they don't come off. The whole hood should lift off in my opinion and it would have been better for viewing. However this is a middle-end diecast model (about $90) so it's not unusual to see heavy handed hinges, etc. on this type of model. I understand where you're coming from Tubman, because I don't like the big hinges either. The higher-end models have miniature working hinges but are a hell of a lot more expensive too. I suppose most times it would be viewed without anything opened up anyway, and it's still a nice replica for the price.

Love the sun visors. I didn't notice them before.

Yeah they're pretty neat visors. A bit out-of-scale but they actually swivel down and add a touch of class to the model.
