Steel Carrier

This rig will be built as a replica of a rig a mate of mine had back in the late70's/early 80's when rolls of steel where carted from Newcastle/Pt Kembler in N.S.W to the car factories around Australia, my mate had a contract to carry 3 rolls every 3 days to Chrysler/Mitsublishi at Tonsley Park and G.M.H. at Elizabeth in South Australia on the odd occassion back then when I had a license to drive his rig I would do it for him while he had a holiday, so this model is in memory of him and is actually taken from memory as there are no photos of the rig to copy but it's not hard to do.

The prime mover was a Mack R600 model hauling a 20-25 foot steel carrying trailer, the trailer was built of heavy steel sides and a wooden deck with steel slides on it.



The Mack was also fitted a Double Eagle Sleeper not a hi-rise as this model shows & was all back the chassis will have a colour change later.

Back in my deepest memories I seem to recall seeing a rig like this with the steel rolls on it. I just can't place the location, but it did impress me. Your model is looking great so far.

Tezza there used to be a lot of these going from Lysaghts Steel in Hastings.
