Skyline GT-R
Howdy folks,
This is my first attempt at building a Jap car and first go at a Japanese kit. It's curbside so it'll be a straight forward build but I do have a wild paint scheme in mind.
This shot shows the molded in detail.
All the bits.
Completed chassis.
Thanks for looking, more to come soon.
Joe.

Re: Skyline GT-R
Detailing is looking pretty good there Joe but I see a problem......Where's the Milo tin muffler for the back, you know, the one a small child can crawl into
Did I tell ya I hate ricers? I am looking forward to seeing what paint job you come up with this time, if it's like your last couple I'd like to know how you come up with your ideas
Cheers Mate

I'm only visting the darkside for awhile, I brought my "get out of jail free" card so it's all good.
Brett, sorry to disapoint ya but that blue is the colour of the plastic. I was just showing the box and the untouched body. It is a nice blue and the body is pretty clean, you could just about get away with simply clearing it and calling it a day.
Tubman, just for you mate I might have to get big "Tubman" licence plate printed up for the back....cause we all know how much you like ricers.

Re: Skyline GT-R
So after seeing your other work can we expect to see some working underbody neons and "fully sick" sub woofers Joe? lol. I also see the problem Kirk raised. I think you could raise the bar a little with the muffler and maybe go for a 20 litre paint can? Oh yeah don't forget the all important realistic "sneeze" noise with every gear change!

Re: Skyline GT-R
After figuring out which way to go with the paint, this is what I came up with.
Tamiya clear blue over a silver leaf base.
Made these stencils using a magizine cover. This took ages to get right.
I attached the stencils with blu-tack to create the fade and masked off the rest then hit it with silver.
Next was to tape off the blue and just the silver fade line for the final black coat.
All tape removed and almost a perfect job
Some of the fade isn't quite right in places and some of the black edges are a bit off but....I like it!!!
I'll try and fix it up a bit before the clearcoat goes on.
I have a question; What colour wheels do you think would look the best? I was thinking flat black but then they would just disapear in the black paint. Any idea's

Re: Skyline GT-R
Depends. If your using the kit wheels I'ld go with a chrome rim and lugnuts and titanium /smoke spokes. Chrome would tie in the silver and the darker grey would look better/softer than straight black. otherwise we would have to see them to know or you could just paint them bright bright yellow

Re: Skyline GT-R
Cheers!
Wasn't too sure how this paint job would turn out, but you never know untill you try I guess. I was after something that was different yet still appealing.
Thanks for the wheel suggestions, although Kermit green .
Yellow might work but I like Boothy's idea of blue rim and black spokes. White may work too same with chrome and smoke spokes.
Chrome is a problem though, no airbrush so no alclad for me. Using the kits wheels, might try blue rim with smoke spokes??
cgmorg: Thanks, hope you find these steps useful although I'm not sure myself if this is the right way to do masking, still new at this but these steps did seem to work.
Thanks again guys!

Re: Skyline GT-R
Sorry dude, I wasn't serious, I was looking out the window at the new renters across the road, think he is a ricer dealer, he's got one blue and one yellow skyline (same as your model) in the garage and an orange 280sx(?) in the drive, there was a 4 door nissan something something on the road the other day, dark metalic grey with kermit green wheels (all unrego'd), FAIR SHAKE OF THE SAUCE BOTTLE, where do these guys get their colour combo's fromClutch wrote:Cheers!
