Moon tank? Empty Moon tank?

Post by VWMan Tue 28 Dec 2010, 2:39 am

I just received a Revell '32 5-Window Coupe, and it has a tank on the front bumper. In the directions it is referred to as a "Moon tank," I was wondering if this was an external gas tank or something else??

Thanks. dunno

Hey,VWman, before I forget (oldtimers disease y'know),that's referred to as a "Moon Tank" because it was originally built by a performance company founded by a guy named Gene Moon.I think he's still around. If you've seen the decals of two small eyes on a bit of a slant, that's his logo. now you know. Not knowing might have kept you awake nights. rolf

I heard some of those Moon tanks did have Moonshine in them, and the gasolene was really held inside the rollover cage tubes? The driver could then "supercharge" himself before each run. Kind of like have your cake and eat it too? Laughing

Just old drag stories I guess?

Scummy is right - Dean was the man until he passed away in 1987. His wife Shirley ran the business until she died in early 1991. He had two daughters (Becky and Brite), and a son (Dean Jnr). The business name is now Mooneyes (owned by Japanese businessman and Dean's friend Shige Suganuma) and this is the current website:
