Greatest XY Falcon model ever
i'm sure you've all got a 1:8 scale XY Falcon GTHO in your collection, no?
This is mine from Icon Models, it cost $800 (now selling at $1300, not a bad investment) and it came as a partly built-kit; that is, some of it was partly built (doors were swung, paint and decals were on). The build was fun, but the instructions were a bit vague for the wiring harness. The only improvements i've made was some detailing of the underhood components (like the relay). There's not really any scope for improvement, such is the level of detail.
box had to be big
351 v8
part assembeled the chassis/interior
one wheel to give idea of size
building the wire loom (hardest part)
engine in place

more interior
the doors were already added at the factory so they could be correctly aligned.
dash in place. see, it really is a HO.
body to chassis
Re: Greatest XY Falcon model ever
added the seat belts. the shoulder strap had to be added after the body was on because it joins both roof and floor
how it progresses. note box for my 1/12 mustang.
old modellers trick. sand the tread of the tire to improve visual realism. here it's half done
front grille added. basically done
how the engine looks at home. note the compliance plate, it's even filled out!
how the chassis looks finished.
Re: Greatest XY Falcon model ever
finished model fills the desk. it's certainly impressive if you want a model with wow factor. it's a pity that so much of the assembly was done at the factory (if i'd know i would've asked for one completely unassembled).
here's the included a replica glove box manual.
Re: Greatest XY Falcon model ever
Here's a scale difference to show how big it is. on top is my 1/25 scale xy falcon gtho (moffat).
Re: Greatest XY Falcon model ever
Nice group of progress shots. Lets us experience what most of us won't. With today's cost of living, mortgage and kids, I won't own one.

Re: Greatest XY Falcon model ever
Very nice. I have contemplated getting one of these but like ProBee said, the cost of living these days makes you think twice.
From building it, how difficult would it be to lower it in your opinion? Not that there is anything wrong with your build at all, I just like my XYs on their guts, and if I was going to get one, $1300 would be a lot of money to experiment with.
Cheers

Re: Greatest XY Falcon model ever
Beautiful model - they were (and still are) only available as partly built-up kits with some minor assembly to be completed by the customer. Considering the detail and size it is good value for money, however tough times means most modellers will never own one - pity.

Looks like she's been well taken care of. Look, even got the original stickers in the engine bay!! Huh? What's that? It's a... model?!?

Re: Greatest XY Falcon model ever
These are nice I don't own one but have built both a red one and a white one for a friend, that was about four or five years ago though.
But I remember the only real problem was the loom.

i think you'd have to lower it like you would a 1:1 car. shorter springs at front, riser blocks at rear.
