'57 chevy funny car

not starting this one as yet looking for photos of real car and history of it, its TOM "MONGOOSE" McEWEN '57 chevy funny car,

The 1989 issue of Hot Rod magazine featured this car. I no longer have the copy but I did record the issue date.

Thank's for that Tezza43,look's like the chevy is metallic red with gold flake in it or a candy red over gold.

No no no. It is a solid red.

Rayman,That look's cool that's for sharing,what shade of red did you use,? any help will be great.

Would you believe that is a 1/64th Hot Wheels legends car? I don't know the colour it is but it is definately a solid red though.

Rayman the body on the chevy is molded in red there is lines in it so I will be putting grey primer on it then a coat of red,the colour I will be using is called Fine Red look's like coca cola red it look's close to the molded colour.Did not know that yours was 1/64 scale

This car come out the same mould as the car currently being raced by Andrew cowin.

Cool Allan, I got one too. Also got the Super Stock and Drag Illustrated magazine with a feature about it in it. will try and remember to scan it for you in the next day or two.

ya just got here before me Tezza43,just found the die-cast one too. I want to detail the chassis like it.

just noticed that the die-cast one is missing the word sizzler at the back of the body.

You'll also find your kit doesn't have the mongoose on the bonnet either Al.

Ah checkmate the mongoose is on the decal sheet that I have,I think the kit I have it the first one that came out kit number is 7172.

justed put some grey primer on body,boy did the red bleed through end up with 3 heavy coats still got bleed through will wait untill primer hardens light sand back then reprimer it.

Bit of red bleed through wont hurt Al if your painting it red will it?

Ya checkmate,sould of used dark grey primer ,once I sand it back a bit will get some dark grey reprimer it,had it happen years ago put white primer on red body it bleed through,reprimered it in dark grey that painted it white have had no problem with it.

here is body in primer gave it a light sand with fine W/D paper.

Now it's starting to look the goods.

Maybe in Japan, Sizzlers is bad for your health?

It's not on Rayman's model either, but it is shown on the diecast model publicity shot (the Mongoose)???

Al the article doesn't really talk about the car at all, more about his future in racing blah blah

Mine had the Mongoose decal as well. I want to rebuild mine at some point as the teenage me didn't do things right the first time. I'd also need to find a new decal sheet for it.



It also needs a good dusting in the short term.

I also built this years ago. I hand paint stripes (really really badly) to make it look like the Victor Bray Castrol Funny car. And like Chevyfan, mine is covered with dust and i would love to re-do mine as well.
