Masking help
Hi I am a newby to this forum.
I just wanted to ask a question re masking.
I recently painted a body with tamiya acrylic with an airbrush. I let the final colour coat cure for 5-6 days. I then masked it off with tamiya tape to paint the window frames. When I removed the tape I had a heap of residue on the body. The tape was on the body for about 24 hours.
How do I avoid getting this residue build up in the future?
Thanks in advance

Re: Masking help
Never had that problem with Tamiya tape. Is it old? Has it got too hot/too cold/wet?

Re: Masking help
Bought it Xmas last year from hobby shop. Been stored inside the house so hasn't got too hot or cold.
I do my spraying outside though (was a cool day about 17c when I used it)
Maybe I should just by some more.

Re: Masking help
How to avoid it?
...my answer would be stop using Tamiya Acrylic as it stays very soft no matter how long it's left to dry, I used to paint exclusively with this stuff a while back until I realized it's just not very good. Switch to enamel or Lacquer and you will find it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Masking help
Thanks for that Paul
Will try some enamel or lacquers next.

Re: Masking help
Aha! didn't spot the paint type.
If you have acrylics and donj't want to waste them then try putting clear over the top before applying the masking tape.
White Knight Crystal Clear Acrylic from Bunnings goes on beautifully straight from the rattle can.
