Removing Gold Chrome Empty Removing Gold Chrome

Post by Tubman Sun 25 Sep 2011, 8:29 pm

One of the guys on TPB forum posted this up, tried it myself and it works. Would have posted pics but didn't get any befores and got the CBF's now.
A few kits have had that horrible gold chrome in them that no one seems to like (60 and 65 Chev lowriders for example) but there is a way to get rid of it and leave the chrome, it's a piece of p*ss to do.
Get a container and put a couple of cm's of metho in it, submerge the parts you want to remove the gold from for a couple of minutes, take em out, renew the metho and leave for another couple of minutes, take out and rinse in soapy water, should be nice and chrome. As usual test on some sprue first but I did two sets of wheels with no probs.
I now have some nice wheels that will fit a couple of 1:32 rods I have, too small in diameter for 1:25 IMO
Sorry if this has been on here before, I haven't seen it.

Thanks Tubbo. You may have just saved a Paddy Wagon from complete strippage of shiney bits.
