Re: '55 F100 panel truck
I would have left it Allan and gone around the gaps with a black sharpy, too late now I guess. Try sticking with one type of paint mate, auto acrylic is quite hot with all the solvents in it. Have only used model paints once in recent years and had the same problem, won't use them again. Some guys seem to have the knack using model paint but I have nothing but dramas with them so I stick with what works for me.
I understand you are trying to get some amazing colours, which you are but at what cost, it is turning you against the hobby you love and that is not a good thing.
Hope it works out for you this time.

Re: '55 F100 panel truck
Hey Al, I mainly use Holts paint but occasionally dabble in Tamiya clears to get the candy effect your after.
Here's two I've done with Tamiya clear red.
Vettevan.
Tamiya clear red over Holts Topaz Gold.
Can see colour better on guard.
And Tamiya clear red over Holts silver with Holts clear as finish coat.
Hang in there Al, you'll get the result your after and it'll all be worth it.
Cheers Rob
