Am I on a roll? the '39 Merc.
Here's number 2 for 2012.
I figure since I built something from the leftover parts I should maybe focus on the main game.
I
The resin body needed a bit of work to fill a few holes and even a flat spot on the right rear fender. Then the '40 Ford headlamps just don't go anywhere near fitting so I decided to french them into the fenders.
The custom blue flake mix I think has too much metal in it and came off the gun a little rough. Even after emptying a can of gloss clear on it, there's still some rough showing through. I don't really want to strip it coz I hate doing body work twice, but if I can't get another couple of coats of clear to fill the flake then I may just have to start again and use less flake next time.

Kool...!!
.....if it's got as much clear as you say on it , then rubbing it back should even it out enough to get a nice smooth finish! That's what I'd do anyway

DAMMMM!!!! That paint looks awesome!!!, I'm with Paul, if you get some more clear on it, then you should be able to "de-nib" it, just as you would a real car. BUT do not do it if the flake itself is coloured- you'll take the colour off the flake and be left with silver spots.

Dat be da plan. I'll let it cure for a while longer before colour sanding and laying on another couple of clear coats.Paul wrote:.....if it's got as much clear as you say on it , then rubbing it back should even it out enough to get a nice smooth finish! That's what I'd do anyway
Might add the chrome foil before the last clear as there's so much on it already I don't want to lose the moulding definitions.
If it doesn't work, out comes the oven cleaner and we start again. Still got plenty of paint.
Maybe I can fix it if I screw up by doing a Watson style panel job. According to George Barris, that's how Watson created the first of his famous paint jobs, trying to hide a screw up.

Looks nice Carps. I'm with the sanding back routine too. Hope it all works out OK for you.

Well after lots of sanding and more spraying of clear coat, I think I may have saved it. Not perfect but it'll do.
Gunna hafta leave the body sit for a few weeks for the clear to get hard enough to handle without leaving finger prints in it.

Re: Am I on a roll? the '39 Merc.
That should be easy, there's so much clear there it'll take a month or two before it's no longer 'wet'.
