Road Train Prime Mover .
Five trucks enter , one truck leaves .
My next resto project is to make a heavy duty prime mover out of the 5 autocar wrecks i've brought of ebay , they are all complete ,the missing parts are in the tipper bodys . I'm still not sure if i should leave the front axle where it is or move it forward , the main truck i will be using is the red one with the decal on the door as it's the best constructed one . So here we go again !
Re: Road Train Prime Mover .
Hey, add some weathering and your got some perfect diorama subjects right there, maybe down the back of an old quarry?
Looks like a bit of work for ya, but deep down you love it!!

Re: Road Train Prime Mover .
I've been down to many storage areas at the back of quarries , the most interesting one was at narellan where there was some treasures there .
I'm not that good at weathering so i'll prob leave that part , and yer it sort of gives me enjoyment to restore someone else's dream model which now has fallin from grace . When i got the road boss it was already in TNT colours and in a million peices so thats the challenge to take what should really be land fill and redoing it .

That's the way, make the dream come true for the previous owner of it. I'm just obsessed with rusty ol' junk. Weathering ain't that hard man, you get a little better every time. The key is practising-do it on a scrap body. Then practise some more!!

Re: Road Train Prime Mover .
Now I understand why you would want to move the front wheels forward.
Thats a nice example, if you can reach that, it will look awesome.

Re: Road Train Prime Mover .
Ok , we pulled it down today , the guy that built it really knew how to build . Minimal amount of glue was used but didnt scrape the chrome or paint away from the glue areas , there are no brake boosters or rear air tank so i duno how he stopped the thing . Below is how it is today and tomorrow it's paint stripper time .

Re: Road Train Prime Mover .
Well today i spent 5 hours in the back yard in the sun filing the places that had glue on them and the factory seam lines . I also looked at the steering linkages and worked out how to convert from LHD to RHD , not that hard when you dont get interupted . No photo's today as there's nuthin to see .
Re: Road Train Prime Mover .
Ok , this last couple of weeks have been busy . The chassis has been put back together and had the locating things removed and painted .
The steering has all been removed and placed onto the right hand side .
The heavy duty rear end has been rebuilt and installed .
Now , as before with the boss rebuild this truck has bigger wheels than all the other amt kits . So with this kit it has super single steer tyres so i had to grind down the outer rims so i could put the standard tyres on the steer .

"Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"
At this stage, all I will say is
"There's lots of work there for----- someone -----who knows what they're doin'
So what info do ya' need?
I reckon the best person to help you out in your hour of need would be "THE DELI HARMER" he knows it all and what he doesn't know he'll make it up.
