15th annual Super Model Car Sunday July 14th 2013

Just giving everyone a heads up that our big event on the West Coast is on again.  We'd love to see some East Coasters make the trip over the paddock to join us so if you work in an industry that does business trips make sure you need to attend one in Perth for the week before or after this weekend, know what I'm saying?

Themes this year are as follows

All Fired Up - anything with a flame paintjob.

Rust in Peace - well weathered relics - cars, bikes, trucks, doesn't matter!

Build Your Own - a model of a car you owned in real life, preferably with photos to support it.

Christmas in July - anything with a Christmas theme.

Modular Swap Meet - in it's second year and we are expecting it to really grow this time - contact us if you need a base board.

As usual it's a very full weekend if you are an entrant and you won't run out of things to do!  There's the famous Give'N" Take box, slot car racing, R/C racing, drifting and Big Rigs.  It's still only five bucks to enter and there's our legendary goodie bag and a free kit of the Wall of Kits to round out the weekend.

Registration Saturday 13th July - 7.00am til late

Open to Public Sunday 14th July 9.am til 4p.m.

Adults $7.00 admission, kids free.

Just three weeks to go to the big weekend for all West Aussie modellers and anyone who would like to visit us.  New entrants are always welcome and it's a fun, laid back atmosphere.  You can contact us before the show for more details or just show up on the Saturday and enter on the spot - don't forget, the earlier you register the better your choice from the infamous " Wall of Kits".

Last year you gave me a couple of block peices for the Modular Swap meet that were just painted black, from memory the board was all green. Will there be two green sections for what I have done or should I try and replicate it on the two I have. Looking forward to catching up with you all.

Only one week to go. We spent this morning putting up the tent frame and this afternoon I have been varnishing trophy bases. Its going to be a busy week - I only just got the body painted today on my Christmas in July project.

Man this yellow print is a pain to work with!

We will try and get some photos up over the next few days but just to let you know that we just had an outrageously successful show yesterday. 83 entrants displayed 1, 135 models to 652 spectators. Yes, that is eleven hundred and thirty five model cars, trucks and bikes!!!!! It included over 150 radically customised and painted 1/64 diecast, about 800 plastic kits from 1/43 to three magnificent 1/8 Pocher models, over 60 1/16 scale radio control trucks semis and excavators operating in the car park, about 60 fully detailed slot cars - you get the picture - it was huge!!!! Dioramas included an eight metre long Bonneville scene, two 1.8 metre Speedway tracks, a mindblowing Adams Family haunted house, a 1/12 Formula 1 pit scene, three i/8 bike dioramas in cases - the boys and girls really outdid themselves.

You guys gotta get over here one day!

I'm loving that last one.  It's giving me some ideas...

Sorry to leave everyone waiting but I am having a running battle with Photomuckit at the moment - like five hours of stuffing around!!!!!! Why did they have to change something that worked???? Anyhow, here's some supermods on one of the two speedway dioramas we had last weekend. If this works I will start posting more.

Here's the junior table. A little down on numbers this year but always good to have them on board. The winner was William Osborne with his black 32 hiboy. The purple GTO at the front was airbrushed by an 8 year old girl - unreal!

On Saturday during setup we have a huge box of parts sitting on a tabel - we call it the Give 'N " Take box.  As long as you chuck something in you can take ANYTHING out.  Our friend Louis took this to heart and took enough parts last year to come back with all these amazing Road Warrior type vehicles - recycling at it's best!

The speedway track had a real Butcher's Picnic going on- here are two of my Late Models going at it!

This is my crusty old speedway towtruck - the body also came from the Give'n'Take box several years ago - too gluebombed to do anything schmick but perfect for this job!

Stephen Enriquez's very cool V6 limited Sprintcar.

This was the first year for Jas at SMCS but his airbrushed House Of Kolour paintjobs had us all salivating - the Scooby Doo van in Tony's shots is one of his as well!

h? And yes, the flame throwers light up!

Francis also took out Modeller's Choice with his Swamp Bug.  Francis lives in Brunswick Junction which is a famous for it's dairy - thus the cow!

First time out was Mark Bird with his sublime collection of Continental vehicles.  The detailing and finish of these unusual models had to be seen to be believed!


And in case anyone is wondering, that's my foldaway bed and sleeping bag behind the table - I always sleep there on Saturday night just for security but there are times I wish I hadn't planned this event to always be on the middle weekend of winter - brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
