3 window 34 ford
wanted to build a 3 window 34 but there isnt any kits that im aware of (having started this please dont send me links of where to find them ! ) so i am combining parts from the Revell snaptite and the AMT street rod (im pretty sure that someone else did one of these) so far i have almost finished the engine, its the Chev 350 from the AMT kit with a blower added, the wheels have been done, and the body has been cut and a firewall added, have begun narrowing the rear of the chassis to fit those tyres under the rear gaurds.

Re: 3 window 34 ford
Nice job! I did a Snap-Tite, but as a curbside, not full detail. I have an old Revell Lil' John Buttera Chopped '34 Coupe kit which is more like 1/27th scale than 1/25th, has a bizarre tubular semi-space frame with 4-wheel independent suspension and a throughly uninspiring small-block Ford V8. I'm thinking of adapting the body to a lakes care with my own scratch built frame. Your idea of adapting an AMT frame to a Snap-Tite is a good one. I'll be following along to see where it takes you. I'm more Old School than Street Rod so I would use the stock variant but the basic approach is not that different.
This is the Revell kit I have (except in blue plastic in my version...):

I like that colour. Reminds me of Ribena and milk.

Re: 3 window 34 ford
Great job, you've made it all fit really well, I'm digging it.
That Buterra '34 is an oddball in that the man never built such a car for real, the closest he came was the work he did with Coddington on the Vern Luce coupe which now lives in Australia, not far from my place.
An intersting side note on that car was a comment from Boyd Coddingtom when he saw it here on a visit. He exclaimed somewhat surprised, "You don't really drive that thing do you, it was never built to be driven!"
The kit uses the chassis from the Butterra T Tudor under that oddly scaled body. I think Revellogram also used it as the base for the ZZ Top coupe and a few others.
The real odd part is that Revel did one of the best scaled and detailed '34 three window coupes you'll ever find, although nowadays 'find' is the operative word as they are rare as rocking horse poop. Although one may appear on evilbay every now and then.

Wow! This brings up two questions:
1) Does anyone have a picture of the kit box. I'm dying to see what it was. Then maybe I'll get foolish on e-bay...
2) With so many other re-pops floating around why isn't there a resin copy of this one?

Here ya go….. If you can find more than one grab 'em all as there's so many building options, one will never be enough.Bernard Kron wrote:Carps wrote:...The real odd part of that is that Revel did one of the best scaled and detailed '34 three window coupes you'll ever find, although now adays find is the operative word as they are rare as rocking horse poop. Revellogram did another Cabriolet later on which is OK but moulded in that brittle plastic they used. I'm pretty sure the same tool was modified to become the zeverely chopped Thom Taylor Cabriolet, which at least is moulded in decent plain white plastic.
Here's an AMT effort, which was also totally wrong like the later Revellogram numbers. Yup, the model actually looks like the box art.
That's a good question, for which I don't have an answerBernard K wrote:2) With so many other re-pops floating around why isn't there a resin copy of this one?

Re: 3 window 34 ford
Thanks! I've always felt that Monogram did the best job of documenting contemporary hot rodding at the time these kits were produced. I had forgotten about this one. It's too bad I'm such a bug about 1/25th because I tend to turn a blind eye to this series. However I have built 1/24th ex-Monogram T-buckets and Model A coupes. If I ever get one of these it will be with an eye to getting it reproduced in resin in various forms. A properly proportioned '34 3-window is sorely needed!

Re: 3 window 34 ford
Monogram started with the excellent kit in the "flat box" as Carps has already pointed out
Later Monogram split the coupe and cabriolet out into separate kits and then later re-released them in the "Early Iron" series in the 70's.
Then along came ZZTop and the 3W was converted to cash in on the "Legs" video. Several different box arts were used while in this format
After that licensing ran out it was again released as a 33 coupe.
The cabriolet was , as Carps said, converted to the Thom Taylor kit
The other 2 3W in 1/25th or 1/24th were the Monogram snap kits and the Revell kit used in this thread along with the very forgettable AMT offering that Carps showed above
