Chuck Millers FIRE TRUCK

G'day again... picked this kit up real cheap so I couldn't resist. Not the greatest of kits
quality wise with a lot of "spindly" parts and flashing, but then hey!... I'm up for a
challenge, and the missus reckons it looks "cute", so I thought I'd give this a go,
but I'm going to attempt some mods along the way.
Front wheels?...NO WAY!, so I found some spare 5 spokers to go with the rears.
Cut moulded triple gauge console away from the R/H side, flipped it over and repositioned it
more to the left. This cab is now going to be more central driven rather than L/H drive.
Cut down Oldsmobile steering wheel (rather the "tiller stick" supplied), made up gear shift
console & fitted to L/H side.
Also this is my first attempt at "wiring" up an engine. I used fine copper wire then
painted. Hope it works!.
Will be fitting rear mudguards and a full windscreen made from a CD cover.

Anyhow, that's about it so far, not sure as to what lies ahead body wise or colours.
If you guys want to throw some ideas or suggestions (be nice!)... any comments

Put a base colour of Tamiya gold leaf X-12 then top coat of Tamiya clear red X-27 will give you a gold candy red colour   looking good so far.

   I like it, maybe put some wider tyres on the back

I plan to build mine with 12 spoke front wheels like these.

G'day Fred... No doubt you also have the MPC kit of this car, but a few disappointing
features being the excessive amount of flashing on the chrome parts, the exhaust
pipes were not chromed, the front and rear ends were a "Head Fudge" to put together (for
me anyway), and they didn't supply the 12 spokers as per original Rod.
Therefore I'm not building it as the Fire Truck, but putting my own spin on it.
Cheers to those who have come back with some ideas, these definitely will
be considered during this build. Thanks guys for lookin' in....

I've got the latest AMT re-pop with the mini kit box insert and the swanky new AMT pie crust slicks.
I robbed the front wheels for an AMT double dragster build and replaced them with the DD 12 spokes.
Don't remember major flash but I wasn't looking too hard

G'day... went to "Bunnings" (in the craft section), bought a roll of self adhesive
black velvet and I think I paid about $4.60.  It's quite thin and easy to work with.
It's also great as little floor mats or roof lining or what ever you wish.
A roll will last you a lifetime of building I reckon. I also get my small paint brushes
from the same area.

They're "RENOIR" brand and I cut the ends down so the
length of the brush is around 18cm. I find these brushes real nice to work with
and they're quite cheap. Hope this info helps.

I guess it is a (delivery) van as such, although the actual rod itself or the kit
didn't have any rear doors. So because I'm building this kit "my way" I'm in the
process of trying to fit a "swing Up" rear door to it.


It might work?.. I don't know, as I'm just "winging" it as I go along with this one!.
I'll keep you guys posted...
 

Like the rear door concept, looking good.

A little bit more progress...Cut down paperclips double as
rear "Grab rails" & also provide a hinge point for rear door.
Photos show engine with carved scoop... Not sure 'bout this yet?.











Anyway for me it's "so far,so good", but should you guys have any
suggestions or ideas... I'm all ears!...Thanks for dropping in.

Have to agree with "Blatdriver" Wider is better!. Will sand the tyres as per
the originals,

G'day... just a bit of an update for those interested...
Fitted fatter slicks as suggested by the "Blatdriver"and pinstriped
tyres in yellow with Gel pen.
Engine was then fitted but "W.T.H"!..(Heck), the headers supplied
not only are they NOT chromed, they don't even come close to fitting
properly!!!...so I made my own pipe headers from an ol' coat
hanger, bent,soldered, polished and "blued". Body is "rattle can" Duplicolor
Viper Mica (Ford). Gloss clear coats yet to come. At this stage
there is more work to be done, but I'll keep you guys posted
anyways. Love all the other "ongoing projects" you guys are
building too. Learning much from the seasoned builders!...
