Porsche 911 GT3
I'm blaming this one on Tamiya, Eric Bana and the Grand Prix. Basically I've got the bug to build another Tamiya kit and while watching the GP on the weekend I realised I've never built a Porsche. Also Eric Bana was racing a yellow one in his new movie. So the stars collided and I pulled this out of my stash on the weekend.
The body and associated elements have been soaking in a zip lock bag of white king for a few days because I didn't see that big bright fluorescent orange sticker on the front of the box...
Gonna try and get some paint on before the end of painting season, but don't like my chances. I think I'll keep it yellow, but I reckon it needs some offset black stripes - sort of like a HK GTS Monaro - race cars need stripes and being as this doesn't have a back seat, I reckon it's a race car!

Re: Porsche 911 GT3
Another convert. When i discovered Tamiya kits (started with their bikes & F1 cars) in the early `80s, i did not buy any american kits for nearly 10 years.
Now if Tamiya modeled american subjects they would make a killing.

Re: Porsche 911 GT3
Mmmm Porsche.
Come to think of it I don't ever recall building a Porsche either, but I guess it's on the cards one day seeing as I have 9 of them in my stash!!
I will be watching this one.....

I think the second bumper is the stock 911 Carerra version. The GT3 has a bigger chin.

Re: Porsche 911 GT3
I can't wait to see this one completed Bryce. I think we'll have to re-instate the old Vic Wills Porsche Trophy for this year's Autochamps NNL so you can maybe add another "string to your bow".

Re: Porsche 911 GT3
Beautiful Autumn weather at the moment and absolutely perfect for painting. I couldn't resist laying a few coats on this one today.
The colour is Ford Yellow Glow - supposed to be from a rattle can, but the can started spitting paint everywhere out of the valve at the top (second can of this colour that has done it - must be a bad batch) so I ended up decanting and putting through a cheap-arse Bunnings single action airbrush. Gotta say I'm pretty happy with the result - may have to invest in a decent one I think.
Also been working on the chassis and rediscovering the joys of brush painting Humbrol enamel. I'm absolutely loving these curbside kits!

I live to piss the purists and rivit counters off. Very nice job mate. I'm all about the paint job and this is shite hot. Not a Porsche fan but can't wait to see what this turns out like.

OOh, I like Kane's idea. Black rims would really set this off, a real street racer.

Re: Porsche 911 GT3
Thanks for the nice comments guys!
Yeah black rims are a given. Planning on just painting the centre spokes black on the stock rims, keeping a nicer chrome lip...

Re: Porsche 911 GT3
Hard to believe it’s coming up to almost a year since I started this one. Things kind of stalled when I needed to touch up the stripes and re-clear.
Body has been polished and black highlights painted:
Chassis is all done and weathered:
And the wheels have copped black centres:
I’m on a bit of a mission to clear my bench for the new year, so focus is on this until it’s done.
