"CHAR GRILLED"
Thought I better get something happening for this one and the Long roof build on HAMB has got me motivated, also helps that this one is going the Kurbside route! lets see if I can get something done,
Just like "Flame Grilled" this one is gunna be a rolling advertisement for a Restaurant, "The Highlander Bar & Grill" courtesy of the decals from an AMT '36 Ford. The Body is a Jimmy Flintstone '61 Falcon that I picked up from Tumut last month and the donor chassis is from the AMT '61 Ranchero, paint will hopefully be Testor's Laquer (if it works in the cold lol) with a pearl white roof and Revving Red body with Kustom front and rear end treatments, the body is pretty thick and had required a fair bit of clean up but the molding is pretty sweet with next to no pin holes. It comes with a Delivery interior including the rear floor so there is less work here than the '49.
Might have to get creative with the rear tyres so it sits closer to the pavement

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
You could take a tip from the purple Merc in the latest Scale Auto - smaller rear wheels.

Nah way to noticeable IMHO!! but trust me I tried that
...if all else fails cut the tyre in half , seeing as this is curbside no ones gunna poke there 1/25th head under anyway!
.....awwww much better!

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
Amazing what you find in Bags of bits from swap meets isn't it? whilst digging through a batch of custom parts I picked up in a zippy bag I came across some original issue Falcon customising bits, Rear pan, Front pan + some extra oddball parts. Unfortunately there was no custom grill, not that I even know what it looks like!
These are going to save some mucking around.

Not a lot of progress but it's almost ready for primer,
Still not sure what's happening with the grill though ,

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
I took advantage of some late afternoon sunshine here and gave it a squirt of Tamiya primer, and also threw some flat black onto the chassis.

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
Hmmm.....still not 100% sure if I like it but here's a rough mock-up of the grill, it will sit back a tad more once the blue-tac is removed! headlights are the custom option from the AMT '65 Chevelle wagon and the grill comes from the AMT '57 Ford.

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
Paul , You've started on one of my favourites, so I'll watch how it turns out. Takes me back to the late 60's when there was a kustom purple metalflake one doing the shows here in Sydney at the time. Grille looks a bit uncomfortable, but rest is OK.

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
These are the reasons I'm not 100% on the grill.
This is with a '58 Vette insert,
...and this is the original style I was toying with,
...plus I was also thinking of square headlights or single round
choices, choices, choices!!!................and I've still gotta decide what wheels to use

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
Paul ,I have a sketch of this with sqare escort headlights and split grille 'ala 'Firebird. Vette grille works better with single headlights . Just a suggestion ; whaddya reckon.

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
I like the twin horizontal headlights, but keep it simple with a nice clean tube grill between them. There's one in the AMT '58 Chevy or '49 Ford from memory. Or you could chop down the one in the last pic I guess...

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
I liked it with the moons, but it looks just as good with the chrome steelies.
Glad it's not mine as i'd never be able to decide and it'd come down to a(nother) "which ones will I want to use on something else" decision.

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
I liked the red steelies, but it's your model Paul.
I learnt years ago not to play that game Zenrat. All you end up with is a well stocked parts box and/or a lot of unfinished projects...

Re: "CHAR GRILLED"
...I don't think I know 100% what the best wheel choice will be till it's painted and decaled. I'm leaning towards Testors Blazing black now with a pearl white roof and Revving red interior, so all of my above wheels choices could get abandoned if something else here looks kool'a!!

And then by the time you get to the project you've saved them for you've found something better.

Thanks. That's just helped me decide on front wheels & tyres for the Thunderchild.

Exactly.
I have a great set of wheels (from the Copperhead snap tite kit) that have been on at least a dozen different mock-ups. Not one of them has ever been finished. I think in my subconcious they seem too good to actually use on a finished model...
Either that or they are cursed!
