Cadillac V16
Here's another oldie of mine - Johan's 1931 Cadillac Phaeton V16 in 1:24 scale. As you can guess I'm more into classics than anything else, but I like all builds no matter what they are. This was a breeze to build up, like so many other Johan models. I enhanced the model with wiring and seat covering, otherwise it's pretty much stock. Sorry about the black and white pics - I've added a yellow tint for effect.
The model in the background is an old Merit 1:24 kit of a Lago-Talbot grand Prix car from the mid fifties. It belongs to another AMCC member.

Re: Cadillac V16
Thanks tjjr. Yes the photos were taken in 1969 to be exact. I've kept these models sealed in boxes and I guess that's why they have survived for so long.

Re: Cadillac V16
Nice. How does the induction work on these. Looks weird with nothing in the v.

Re: Cadillac V16
The engine had two carburettors, one on each side of the block. Induction was upwards into the manifolds. The V16 engine displacement was 452 ci. From 1938 onwards Cadillac's V16's had the carburettors placed on top in the 'v'.

Re: Cadillac V16
Great Build tezza and the blackand white photo enhances the detail more clearly. What colur is it though.
I have one of these that I had almost finished when I broke the end off the front axle, so it got put to the back of the stack.
After seeing yours I might have to dig it out and see if I can fix the axle and finish it.

Nice work Terry! With all these great builds of yours you should crack open a fresh kit and get back into it! Maybe even join the Pony Build off as you still have time to do it!!

Thanks for that. I had read somewhere that early US manufacturers designed their motors for aesthetic reasons, this looks like a good example.

Re: Cadillac V16
Thanks for your kind comments guys. I painted the Caddy simple as can be - white with black guards. Upholstery is red corduroy cloth, which really stands out against the white. The doors are non-opening, and I outlined them using a fine draftsman's drawing pen. The instrument dials were painted white and then the tops of the numbers were carefully scraped with a scalpel blade to reveal the black plastic beneath. They were finally coated with clear varnish.
The engine is black with polished alloy (the chrome is actually incorrect but I didn't worry about it). I covered the folded hood with fine cloth and painted that flat black. To outline the silver ring on the spare tyre covers, and the word "Firestone", I used a hard eraser cut and shaped to a small flat end as a stamp. I dipped the end into the silver paint, wiped off the excess on paper and then pressed it onto the raised plastic, where it left the paint perfectly on top of the plastic - no runs or wobbly lines.

Hey Paul - there's nothing I want to do more than to get back into building model cars. My life is so full-on at present, and I need to relax and start enjoying myself again. I will get back into it but I don't know about the Pony build-off - it's too soon. I have actually started working on Monogram's big 1:8 scale Jaguar XKE coupe, and I'm converting it into a roadster. Maybe I'll have it finished in time for the club's annual competitions???lol
