Re: Beep Beep 2 – ’68 Roadrunner
Spent today working on the engine for this one while watching the Supercars run off the track at Phillip Island. Pretty much kit based with the exception of plug wires, carbies and coil. A very nice example of the big Hemi engine – it looks seriously imposing even in 1/25th scale!

Re: Beep Beep 2 – ’68 Roadrunner
So it's a race Hemi then (chrome valve covers)?
Looks Good and unlike mine actually has the dizzy in the right place!

Street race Hemi of course!
Yeah that distributor was pretty badly done. I couldn't see anything to stick it to, so I drilled a hole through the top of the manifold and used a piece of wire to locate it.

Re: Beep Beep 2 – ’68 Roadrunner
Street Hemis had black crackle finish valve covers from the factory. Race Hemis had chrome.
Of course it could be that chrome covers were fitted to psych out the opposition or just dress the engine up.
I drilled a hole fitted the dizzy in what looked like the best position according to the instructions.
Hah! Too far forward and only just allowed clearance for the top hose.

Re: Beep Beep 2 – ’68 Roadrunner
Thanks guys.
Got the interior all finished up for this one – pretty boring, but I guess black vinyl interiors are pretty boring…
Oh well – onto the chassis and final assembly!

Nope it's straight black - just reacting with the flash I think.
By the way, engine’s in as of last night.
Gotta say, I really like this separate inner fenders, firewall, radiator support panel assembly. It will probably give me a massive headache when I go to fit it all to the body, but it is great for detailing.

Re: Beep Beep 2 – ’68 Roadrunner
That looks good as well.
Cant remember if I glued the inner fenders etc into the body before I put the body onto the chassis or if I glued it to the chassis first. No problems though (unlike with the '70 Super Bee).
You got a bottom hose on it or have you done what I usually do and not bothered as it doesn't show?

What are the problems with that kit? I have one of those to build as well.

Yeah it's got one - prick of a thing to get in though - very tight spot. I can understand why you wouldn't bother.

Re: Beep Beep 2 – ’68 Roadrunner
The '70 Super Bee?
Well, i've built the Pro Street one and final assembly was no fun.
Interior tub did not want to fit into the body for a start. I had interference issues at the tops of the doors IIRC. Or was it a gap? Can't remember except that it was a PitA. I do remember that the destructions tell you to cut chunks off of the windscreen to get it to clear the dash.
And I couldn't get the body to sit down properly over the inner fenders/firewall/radiator support panel. I ended up with a gap and rather high ride height.
Here are some poor pictures
I'd lowered the front suspension as much as possible but the fit issues meant it ended up roughly stock height but with almost zero ground clearance.
This was the 2nd or 3rd build after a 20 year break so I was still getting my hand back in and didn't do enough test fitting during the build.
To cap it all I broke the white decals putting them on (they looked really good against the grey) and there's glue & silver paint all over the glass.
It's lined up for a strip & rebuild & new glass (got a complete unbuilt kit with nothing wrong but for a squashed body).
I've also got the stock '70 Super Bee to do at some stage so if you want to have another Mopar build off...

Cool. I've got the latest release stock version to do as well, so I'd definitely be up for it. You can never have too many mopar models...

Stock or Pro Street – I don’t mind.
After seeing your RR Tubman I am pretty keen to get my hands on some big wheels and do the Pro Touring thing with mine.
I particularly enjoy building the same kit at the same time with others. It’s good fun to see a different approach and gives you a good heads up on build issues/potential problems with the kit.
So let’s do it then – who’s going to BEE in it?

Re: Beep Beep 2 – ’68 Roadrunner
Already got mine out. Got the over all theme sorted, just got to decide on a colour.
I'm with you Bryce, I love seeing the different styles that doing the same model brings out.
So I'll BEE in it.

Yeah cool - I'm thinking something along these lines:
Maybe with a twin turbo Hemi...no idea where I'm going to get the wheels for it though...any suggestions out there?
