This do ya Bryce?
Sorry but I can't make it any louder without repainting something. I suppose a Go Mango or Sub Lime air cleaner?

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Sorry.
Here's the chassis painted body colour (Testors Sable Brown Metallic) and the engine sat in pozzy. Front ride height is set but at the back that's just tubs resting on tyres ATM. Wheels will get chrome centre caps.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Just painted the body.
Of course ghosting immediately showed up on the outside of the bonnet above the "cut here" lines despite me having filled (with 2 part filler) and sanded and it looking perfect in primer.
It's the combination of gloss paint and metallic particles which makes them show up.
D'oh!
Maybe this'll have to be another one with a satin black bonnet (hides a multitude of sins)...

ProBee Done
Woohoo, got this done. I've named this one PROBEE. Pretty happy with the way it came out, just wish I could jump in and get those big gumballs smoken. Not much more added apart from the zorst and filters out back, pretty much just assembled what I'd done.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Realised that apart from ghosting I had also forgotten to attach the ram-air scoops before I painted the Bonnet of the Brown Bee.
So it's taking a bath.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Glad to hear you're still at it Fred, I was starting to get lonely. I'm also itching to get on with the next build off, what ever it may be. Better finish a few others off first tho.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
I'm still here and still at it.
Kirk, the ProBee looks sweet. Nice paint job, the blue looks deep enough to swim in. Nice build.
Zen, you're not the only one stripping back the paint. I've had my Bee in the bath 3 times now, first 2 because of bad designs, third time because of a bad can of paint. The body was starting to get brittle so this fourth paint job I wasn't stripping it back no matter what.
It's not completly even on both sides and there's a few mistakes, some I can fix some I can't but it'll do.
Started with an orange base. Made this stencil, used blue tack to keep it off the body so the silver will fade under it.
Then I masked it off and sprayed the body Stratto Grey.
I clearcoated the orange and silver before I sprayed the grey so I should be able to clean up some of the lines. Next is to add some decals and then clear and polish

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Nice effect!
I initially thought the blue stencil was the paint and you'd done some body work and got your decals upside down.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Hmmmm...interesting. Think I preferred it with just the silver and red. Great tip for achieving an even fade though - I have tried to do that freehand before and wasted a lot of time - thanks for sharing.

Holy crap, how do you come up with these paint jobs Joe. Wasn't sure about the grey but I will reserve judgement till it's done. Nice job so far.

Same here. This is brilliant and looks like it'll work with both rattle cans & airbrush. I guess you have to maintain a constant angle between the can/brush & the model or the paint will blow further under the stencil in some places than others.

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Cheers Guys!!
Yes it's a bit over the top but what can I say, that's how I like 'em.
Once it's cleared and polished it should look O.k.
Yes you must keep the can or airbrush on the same angle or it will blow under. The left side looks better than the right. On the right side the silver is wider than the left and the fade isn't as good along the bottom.
Bryce, I liked it with just the orange and silver, before the grey but it wouldn't have worked. There was alot of overspray on the roof and boot that needed to be sanded back before the grey top coat went on.
I did learn something about fading. Translucent or clear colours work better than sold colours for fading. They seem to blend better. Sold colours seem to look like ther are sitting ontop of the base colour instead of next to it. This is translucent silver, so it shows different depth in different lighting.
Thanks

Re: AMT '70 Super Bee Build Off
Doesn't matter if each side is slightly different as you can't see them both at the same time.
