49 Merc "The Illuminator"
My version of Revell's '49 Merc.
Body has had a pie chop with a slight roof chop. Removed the B pillars and most of the trim, only leaving a chrome strip along the top of the doors. Interior also had to be chopped to fit into the body.
It's lowered with the rear wheels off-centered so it has a parked height and a cruzin' height. Body colour is...well I'm not sure, what would you call it? Dark pearl mulberry?
Lights are wired to the wooden box in the boot. The twin frenched antenna's are 2 sepparate switches made from styrene and a guitar string. Pull the taller atenna and the car's lights came on, pull the shorter one and the blue light in the boot turns on.There is 2 blue bulbs in the back, one on each side of the box. But one has a bad connection. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...today it doesn't. With all the drama's I had with the lights, to have only one light in the boot that doesn't work is no big deal.
The light base is basicly a pine frame, a cut to size mirror, scale mahogany veener and a dismantled small Led flashlight.
In total there's 16 Led bulbs, 3 sepparate switches, a handmade base with lights and a custom built model. Fare enough one light doesn't work but I couldn't give a rats arse! I'm just glad to have built what I have.
Hope you all enjoyed the build, I enjoyed the company.
Joe

I've said this before too, "Thanks guys, you've made my day".
Towards the end, I hated this fricken model but now, I'm glad I didn't pike out. I know there's brillant models everywhere but personally I'm stoked with this one.

Re: 49 Merc "The Illuminator"
Well done Clutch - you really pulled this one off. Particularly impressive considering you've never tried this style of model building before. Great job. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Re: 49 Merc "The Illuminator"
Clutch---Your Merc is simply Amazing ! Great Job! Are we going to have ascend to a different level to match that? I have started on a few superdetail cars and a couple are still in boxes , Because I Hated them because I was trying to get absolute perfection, then bad things happen. Well done , you got through the frustration and finished it. Thankyou for that! Can you top this one?

The inspriation and styling came from you guys and your builds. Without it, there's no way I would've even tried.
So a big thankyou to everyone for showing their work. We all learn from each other in some way or another, I'm just glad to be apart of it.
Having said that, this custom work is hard goin'. Hats off to you guys that make it look easy....I'm going back to "boxstock" for awhile, less stressful.
Cheers for all the support.

Wow!!!! Awesome!!! Well done on such a fantastic build Clutch. It's good to see some personal boundaries being pushed and to have something so wicked come out in the end, that's where true inspiration begins.

Spot on without the lights. They just take it over the top.

Everyone else has said it Clutch, but an amazing job on the Merc. The colour is beautiful. There's no way I would ever try anything like lighting. I'm definitely glad you got this finished so I could see it. Well done.
