A new year, a new project...
New one for me – ’57 Ford taildragger. This one has been nosed and decked, shaved , front and rear lights frenched and some nice long skirts added out back.
I never really liked the big plain rear quarters on these cars, so have extended the side trim to run all the way to the end, following the contours of the original. It’s a bit like what I imagine would have happened if Harley Earl worked for Ford in 1957.
I hit this with Clear Orange over a copper base today. Plan is to do a second colour on the roof and flash down the side. Was originally planning to do this in black but am now leaning towards more of an ivory/cream colour. Open to suggestions on the second colour for this one.

Re: A new year, a new project...
Black would seem the go as it complements "gold" metallics so well, but it may look too heavy on the sides? Cream also works well with bright copper and would look very trendy in my book. I guess I'd go with the cream colour. Difficult choice though.

Re: A new year, a new project...
Thanks for your input Tezza - I am thinking along the same lines.
Any chance you can do a bit of photoshop work so we can see what it will look like before I do all that masking?

Re: A new year, a new project...
with both allen and Tezza. She's a beaut Bryce ,and I also agree black would look too heavy so would also go for an off white cream shade

Just a thought, the black in the photoshop image almost looks like a dark chocolate brown, a strange but interesting possibility.

The dark brown appearance came about from applying a small transparent effect to the black layer to enable viewing of the door panel lines and tonal values. I did this in rather a hurry and didn't desaturate the colour under the black. Here it is again but with desaturation applied. I agree though - dark chocolate brown does have its possibilites.

Re: A new year, a new project...
A very dark chocolate brown would be spot on. Straight black would be too stark against that gorgeous dusky orange.
Mmmmm Chocolate Orange...
Hang on, what am I saying. Acid yellow. Paint it acid yellow with a sky blue roof...

Re: A new year, a new project...
Thanks guys, I went with the cream but didn't mask up very well and got overspray all over the orange....So took the opportunity to add a bit of flake underneath and now it looks lighter, so may well go with black in the end...seems like it ain't one of my custom models unless it's got at least 15 coats of paint on it...
Will post some pics ASAP.

Re: A new year, a new project...
So here’s the new flakey orange – which I reckon looks ace, with the cream flash and roof. Not sure I like the cream though, so am thinking about painting over it with black next week. Let me know your thoughts - appreciate everyone’s input so far...

Hey Bryce - i didn't realise you only needed the side flash to be coloured, so here it is in black.
