Number 3 for the year is on the table
I kinda had this in my mind for a while and since the theme for the latest HAMB build of is 'The deuce', it's now well on the way after a very slow start.
It was going to be blue but damn near everybody in the contest has used some shade or other of blue, so I thought maybe red, then the bloody red ones started to appear. So I figured screw 'em, I'll make up my own colour! It took me a while to figure out where to start and then as I was contemplating a can of straight black, it all came to me. I added a good amount of the candy apple red I used on the F1 pick-up, then a tiny bit of blue pearl, followed by a couple of huge dollops of magenta pearl powder!
And the result is ……………..
In normal light it looks pretty good, quite dark but not black, more like a deep sarsaparilla colour.
Look hard and you can see all the colours working together.
Add some sunlight and it really starts to pop!
There's only one coat of clear on it so far, so it should look pretty good with a couple more and a good polish.
I decided against using a blower on the Hemi, but couldn't find a nice tunnel ram, so I ended up using the manifold that comes with the 5 window coupe kit. I've also added a R&M pre drilled dissy complete with vac advance unit (man that stuff is fiddly) since I had the leads individually plugged into the cap I wired the engine in the correct firing sequence, which is the first time i've ever gone so crazy with plug wires. Of course there's also a vacuum line from the vac unit to the rear carb. So now I figure I'm gunna hafta plumb the carbs and set up the acc linkage too. I've already wired the alternator. :-D

Carp's that's sharp! that coluor is very similar to the one they painted Toyota dual cab hilux's with. They use them here in Tas, for fire vehical's and look real kool. Cheer's John.

Thanx guys.
Ha, just what I need, to invent a Toyota colour using expensive Lexus shades and pearl powders.

What's the body from? I thought it was a Revell sedan but then noticed the ribs/recesses on the roof and the firewall.

Re: Number 3 for the year is on the table
Fred, look at the first pic and you'll notice it has no firewall and the stock roof insert is in place.
The firewall is the new flat unit from R&M of Maryland, trimmed and recessed at the bottom to clear the Hemi. The roof has been 'filled' the traditional way, using a ribbed wagon roof panel. Achieved simply by shaving it smooth and fillining the grinding rash, then applying thin plastic strips to replicate the ribs of a wagon panel. Indents for the cowl lamps have also been filled.
The other major work is reduction of the rear chassis rails to get the big fat rubber neatly under the fenders rather than have it sticking out. Just like it'd be if built in 1/1 scale by Bobby Alloway who uses this same wheel and tyre combo almost as his trademark.
There's a couple of other little details I'm planning, not the least being an original rear luggage rack, just for a little more uniqueness.

That's a nice colour. If you had to mix more paint at a later date, would it be hard to get the same shade?

Most likely, that's why I mixed it in a big batch, reckon I have enough for at least another three or four models.Clutch wrote:That's a nice colour. If you had to mix more paint at a later date, would it be hard to get the same shade?

Re: Number 3 for the year is on the table
Playing with colours is always fun and it's amazing what a difference a couple of extra clear coats made to my sarsaparilla colour.
As you can see I had a productive afternoon today.
Got chassis assembly underway…..
Engine isn't locked in place but almost ready…….
Got the interior upholstered, so to speak…….
Even wood grained the dash and steering wheel. Being impatient, I photographed it before the lenses on the dials had cured, they look much better than this now.
