1967 Camaro
Hello everyone. This is Australian Touring car racing's first Camaro. It was driven by Terry Allen around Aus and NZ race tracks between 1967 and 1970. The car ran a 396 big block with four 58mm Weber side draught carbs. It wasn't a hugely successful race car because of it's dodgy handling but it won a few hearts with it's hot looks and raw power. The car had a few different liveries over it's career but I chose the non-championship 67 version with the white stripes. It's the AMT '67 Camaro kit with a modified bonnet from a MPC '69 Camaro, spares box wheels (yes it did race with the centre caps on the wheels in '67!!!), scratchbuilt roll bar brake ducts and exhaust, detail master belt hardware, MCG photo-etch, Tamiya paint with decals for the stripes. This is a great little kit that looks basic but is very easy to add extra detail to. I'm kicking myself now that I didn't make a big block engine fit under the hood but I'll get it next time.
Underside pic. I made new steering arms and driveshaft as well a rejigged the front uprights.
Inside pics. It's got a bit of photo etch in it. It's even got a key with a key ring in the ignition. The dials on the centre console are drawn with a white pencil with spots of orange paint for the needles. I had no references of the real car's interior, I only knew it was black.
It was a fun build for a change and there was nothing in the kit itself that gave me any trauma.
Thanks for viewing.
Cheers SS

Re: 1967 Camaro
Awesome work as usual - that looks fantastic!
I'd forgotten how good the shape of that old AMT body is. It looks spot on.

Your builds are awesome Shawn. A great reminder of when the touring cars were a blast to watch.
Don't suppose you (or anyone on here) have built the Kevin Bartlett camaro (before the famous footage of it)? Would love to see that in scale but is a bit above my skill level at the mo.

Thanks guys. I haven't built the Bartlett Camaro yet ChevyFan, I've started it though. The project is stalled at the moment because of two things. 1- I'm struggling to find a way to get the area between the front guards and the airdam right, and 2- The Simmons wheels. I don't know of the existance of any in plastic or resin and they are a mongrel to scratch build. So far it has parts from MPC 77, AMT 70, Monogram 78, and a Revell 69 Camaro's. I'll post some progress pics here soon. I also have Bob Jane's 70/71 championship winner in progress. see pic.

Shawn , check out wheel choice number 3 in this thread , might be as close as you'll get . Zen can most likely tell you where they came from too . https://ozautobuilders.forumotion.com/group-assembly-scheme-gas-f20/gas-9-97-pontiac-t1697.htm#24120

No joy on those wheels I'm afraid. I do have a set of those but they are not close enough to Simmons wheels because the spokes cross over. I'm fussy like that.

Re: 1967 Camaro
I'm not actually sure what the wheels you are looking for look like, but if they are the composite spoked ones I am thinking of, I have a set off an IMSA Mustang that may fit the bill. Let me know if you're interested.

Hey ChevyFan, This pic of KB was taken at the opening of the Champions Brock Experience holding a scratch built 1.24 model.
Shawn, I am loving your work mate. your modeling skills are awesome. It's great to see you share the same passion for classic Australian touring cars.
I would love to see your collection!! Cheers
Re: 1967 Camaro
Hope you can sort out the wheels Shawn, cos I'm looking forward to seeing pics of it, and the Bob Jane camaro too.
Shoey - that camaro looks awesome, any chance of some pics of it in The Showroom etc. If you haven't already before I joined.

Thanks guys. Shoey your awesome Aussie builds are one of the main reasons that I joined here. My collection? It's only 20 or so cars (more like a gathering than a collection) and most of them will appear in the showroom over the course of the year so stay tuned. I was going to show some progress pics of my Bartlett Camaro but it's not really in a photogenic state ATM. Sorry for the tease. However another Camaro is on the way so I'm devoting most of my spare time to getting that done.
Cheers SS
