56 F100 Rat
After reading some of the threads on here about rebuilding some old projects, I decided to have a look through my box of old reject from years ago. Also wanting to get my hand back in before I start a new one, I decided to have a play with this................
It's an old Revel kit, that's been painted a few times, which in this case might work out well, when sanding back through some of the colours
The motor came out of the spare parts box as well, added a tunnel ram and blower, the front bumper is from a 57 Chev, the rear guards are from an old Hot Rod, and the tray, I made from Balsa Wood. The front wheels are from a 56 Chev, & the back one's are from a 90's F100.

Re: 56 F100 Rat
That's exactly the kind of "bitzer" I remember when I was a kid. There was one like this around the corner from my home in Ascot Vale (Melbourne) and the guy did anything he could to keep it going, including using "bitz" from other models. I sure hope you continue with this rebuild.

Wasn't happy with the 1st tray I built, so last night, started building another one...........

Re: 56 F100 Rat
Soy sauce (no joke!) is great at staining balsa to make it look right.
Where you've gouged away the wood to simulate rot it should take up more and make those areas darker and more rotten looking.
Or you can use woodstain or just rub the balsa with dirty fingers.
This is woodstain (walnut IIRC).
This is Soy Sauce
And this is dirty fingers

Re: 56 F100 Rat
Oh, and rubbing with wire wool will "bring out" the grain IIRC.

Re: 56 F100 Rat
Got a fair bit more done over the last couple of days.......
..............still need to detail the motor, finish the side pipes, find some hot rod type tail lights, and a few other things.
And a big thanks to dv8v8 for the windscreen

Looks great!
I like the new bed, suits it really well and the different paint layers on the body look spot on.
