scratch building engine bay?
hi guys i am trying to sike myself up to cut out a bonnet and scratch build an engine bay on a husagawa kit of the gt1600 celica and a fujima kit of my nissan cherry, i kinda have an idea of how to cut off the bonnet (sharp blade) but have know idea on how to make an engine bay from scratch does any one have pics of one being built or know of a site were there is some pics i dont wont to copy anyones design or anything like that i am simply just trying to see how its done so i can try my own, i guess the mane thing that scares me is how much of the chasis i cut away and how to make the wheel arches.
well if yas can throw me in the right direction i mite actually get the balls to do it lol im keen and scared sh*tless at the same time.
thanks
john

Re: scratch building engine bay?
I don't know the kit, so hard to comment on this, but I would think the existing chassis should have wheel wells that you can use as a starting point? Then it's just a matter of making up a firewall and radiator support panel from sheet plastic.
I would think Shoey should be able to give you all the advice you need on doing this.

Re: scratch building engine bay?
Better to score out the bonnet than cut it aas then there's less chance of the blade slipping and going places you don't want it (like into your fingers).

This video on YouTube may be a good start for ideas:

This guy uses common thread to cut open doors, etc. Lots of other model car stuff there to look at - nice way to spend an hour or so.
