well heres the first ute in my collection and im proud of the progress so far altho i did break the front window putting it in so this el camino has full frontal air conditioning and comes complete with clear safety glasses and mouth guard to stop bugs its a fun kit to put together and the green is awesome i do have plans of using some aluminum pipe for the exhaust pipes i have em cut just gotta fit them on and i got to cut the tonneau cover to fit yet and im goin to attempt a little more engine bay detail as i did the battery i was goin to have a go at doin some dizzy cables and battery cables and maybe fuel lines i got all the bits i need just never tried super detailing one before well heres the pics so far for this project

Re: 1966 chev el camino
i was thinking maybe i wont do the cover with the subs cos every bloke that has a ute has a saying dont they " me, me dog an me ute" so i might find a plastic dog to put in the back instead lol

Re: 1966 chev el camino
I'd leave the flames off it mate, it looks nice and clean how it is. What brand/shade is that green? Its got a nice gloss about it.

wing and a prayer
hey again guys sorry i havent been on for a while been doin some model boat building for our boat club up here, i was rearanging my wall unit with all my car models in, and decided i needed a bit more room to put my dora railway gun in so i thought well ill make a display up for some maybe, so as the 66 el camino is in my eyes my best model yet i thought well ill do something for it, it was my first ute model and its my fav color lime green so i went to work in my dads shed to make a nice flat cyprus display stand then i thought well if i'm guna do a stand i might as well go all out and thanks to the awesome inspiration i got from clutch and his project " illuminator" i thought ill emancipate some green neons from under the dash of my car that i dont use anymore use some pine left over from my fish tank stand and make a stand up for all my friends to see when they come over and maybe a new entry for next years model show and to my surprise i got it all done in one day and im quite proud of it ill be doin a few more in the future for some of my other cars, the only thing i have left to do is some fill over the screws and stain it and whalla all done, well here they are
this is the rear of the stand i had to use the dremel to engrave a trench for the wires of one neon stick
the front side with the back drop ready to be nailed on i wanted a vintage type garage but pics are hard to find on google images (sigh) but the backdrop is easy enuff to remove and replace the pic if in the future i come across a suitable pic, dont be suprised to see that set square lol
heres another pic of the rear wit the neon stick in place
heres the finished product the front piece hides another green neon stick i made up some car ramps out of some cut offs to lift the car up so u can see the undercarriage detail with the mirror in place like some proper show cars do
heres the right corner with some crates i bought off dv8v8 and a pile of logs i found in an old box and one of the standard rims and tyre from the el camino kit...(thinks) it could be from my studebaker...umm well its now a spare wheel anyway
heres left side with the bonnet up i got the rims in the background from the 64 ford fairlane thunderbolt kit (which will have a stand aswell)
here it is in utter darkness it really sets the lime green off
this was the alternative background i might still use it on another stand or something in the future

Re: 1966 chev el camino
Great idea for a diorama, love the lights! The ute looks great on it's own but with the lights on it looks even better.
