Datsun Fairlady Z 432
Not my usual kind of thing, but it was a birthday present from my wife and son and if I wanted to get another present I had to build it! The car is the jap-only version of the 240Z. Apparently in Japan they couldn't have anything greater than 2 litres, so they dropped the CCs back and added twin cams, three carbs and a four speed (hence the 432). It's a Fujimi kit and if I ever have to build another one it will be too soon. Full engine detail but no engine bay, so everything else in there is scratchbuilt. And I had to cut the bonnet open just to get in there. It had a chrome parts tree, but the bumpers were molded in clear! Hope you like it...

Bryce you're working overtime old buddy. This is a difficult kit to build well (I built one for the importers, and you pointed out some of its problems), but it is rewarding and you've done a great job of it. That engine detail is superb. And its good to see you outlining the doors and other panels. Adds to the realism.

Re: Datsun Fairlady Z 432
As always a great build with waaaaay too much detail.
Japan is an interesting place in so far as what you pay for registration is linked to engine capacity and as soon as it goes over 2 litres, the cost jumps by a big ammount.
In recent years that's changed but only slightly such that 2.5 and below is resonable, up to 3.5 is livable and over 3.5 is still only for the rich and famous or Yakusa. The 1 litre and below cars are dirt cheap to license which is why they make up something like 40% of the Japanese market.

Very nice work,Bryce. I have fits trying to get a shine like that out of orange. Real paint is no sweat but model paint and I don't communicate well. Great job. I predict another gift in your future.

That's why I only use real paint on my models Bill - I gave up on model paint years ago for the same reasons.
Thanks for the nice words guys. Cool thing about looking at these old threads is I realise how much better mu photography is these days.
