'32 Sedan
G'day guys, the next one on my bench is this 32 Sedan from revell.
I've chopped the top using Bryce's "Z" method.
After some filling and sanding, I hit it with a base coat of Cheap chrome. I didn't get this joins perfect but it's good enough.
Then the top coat, Tamiya PS Pink/Gold. I used the same colour on a '67 Chevelle but at the time thought the colour would look good on a show rod. Only difference is this is over chrome (or silver) and the Chevelle was over white. The silver base gives it just a little bit more shine on the curves. I also removed the vinyl top but the outline came through the topcaot, even though I prepped with primer.
Really couldn't be bothered stripping this one and fix the roof, I decided to try and cover it up with some lace.
The lace is tape from a craft shop, really easy to work with. Only problem is it lifted up the pink paint when I removed the lace tape. I knew this would happen because I used Tamyia P.S paint which is stretchy and dosen't like to be taped off.
You can see the wrinkles on the right side.
It's not that bad but very annoying knowing it's there. I'll try to sand the wrinkles down a bit then hit it hard with some clear.

Re: '32 Sedan
Interesting stuff - good work on the chop.
I would go easy on the clear if you are having problems with ghosting on the roof though. If you are using lacquer and the solvents are too hot, they will make things much, much worse!

Yep, sure is. A little tricky to work with but not impossible.zenrat wrote:Nice chop.

Bryce, what you've said makes perfect sence. I noticed the ghosting comming through on the second or third coat, so I gave it a heavier coat and that's when I really noticed the lines. Maybe that's when I shoud've stopped and gave it a rub back instead of more paint.
Still confident I wont need to strip it but I'm not ruling it out.
Cheers!

Re: '32 Sedan
I should've just stripped it then instead of wasting time trying to fix it. Since then I've stripped the body and I'm working on the A pillars again. The ghosting in the roof got the better of me plus I wanted to redo the A pillars.Clutch wrote:

I've started on the interior, colours are tamiya Light sand with Apricot flocking.

Re: '32 Sedan
Woah, talk about burn the eyes, that sure is bright Joe, knew you would find a use for that colour sooner rather than later. Bummer about the body but I'm sure the colour will be replaced with something even more stunning, good luck mate.

That's a "flocking" nice build so far. Shame the paint didn't work out first time but I guess that's how we learn? Keep us posted please because this is something special.

Re: '32 Sedan
Hey thanks guys
Yeah you're right Kirk, as soon as I seen this bright flocking (ThePartsBox) I knew it would go on my next build.

I'd like to think Zen & I share the same colour palette, but he's still waaaaay more out there.Bryce wrote:That's some bright carpet...

Re: '32 Sedan
Been a while since I've worked on this one, pulled it out a week ago or so. Here's where Im now at,
For the piping, I used fibre optic strands painted orange, window/door cranks are an optic strand wrapped around a pin head and the gear stick is a bead head pin. The flocking is apricot and a mix of cream/brown.
I stripped the body because of ghost lines showing through the paint on the roof. Second time around no marks on the roof but lines now showing along the cut line through the rear window, bugger!
I should probably sand back the lines and give it a light re-spray but because this is colour shift paint and it needs to be built up in layers, I don't know if I'll be able to blend it in?
Thanks for looking

Re: '32 Sedan
Had a go at making a headliner,
New window frame,
Had a wheel change, I've gone with these ones from the Super Bee kit that Kirk sent me. To add a bit more detail I drilled out all the breather holes.
I almost totaly got rid of the seem line on the back with just some light sanding, the shine hides the rest.
After a month dry time waiting for this friggin paint to dry, I finaly got the lace down again and cleared.
Now to start putting it all together.
Thanks for looking.
