2005 Chrysler 300C Custom
Hi again
Here is another that has taken me ages. I really need to find more time.
Its the AMT Chrysler 300C. I have it primered ready for paint and it will be Tamiya Pearl White TS-45. The only body mods are removing the crease down the centre of the bonnet and along the top of the grill as I thought this needed to be more smooth for the custom look. The only other mod is smoothing the rear bar. This needs a bit more sanding and primer before I spray everything together. The wheels are from a 1:32 Hummer I found at a swap meet and I think when I did a quick calc they end up being 24 inches or so in 1:24.
The front will actually sit lower than it looks in the pics hopefully as I have lowered the front struts some what but when I did this final test fit I realised the chassis is warped so the front of the body keeps popping up. Any ideas on how I might be able to fix this without having to pull everything apart? Any advice would be appreciated.
The chassis and driveline is box stock except for the front struts and is sprayed in flat black with the exhaust done in Tamiya TS-83 Metalic Silver. I can honestly say this colour is awesome in the daylight. The suspension has the usual detailing on the springs and sway bar.
The only mod to the engine bay is I made the engine cover a one piece instead of the two, sprayed it in the same colour that the body will be and added the pinstripe decal that I pulled from a Revell 32 Ford. There will be a resin cold air intake pipe and filter also.
The only addition to the interior is the speakers on the parcel tray that is the same colour that the body will be and the TV on the dash. The interior is painted in flat black for the leather and semi gloss black for the plastic bits. The chrome and stereo fascia are done in silver.
I really wanted to get the rear lower as well, but I couldn't find a way to do it without chopping the rear out of it as the rear driveshafts are touching the chassis already. I may fudge it to get the look I want. I don't want it to take another 9 months otherwise I would do it properly. I know its not a lot of work for 9 months but it might give you an idea of how much time I get.
Hopefully it won't take me too much longer if I can sort out the little problems and am I really to get it finished.
I hope you like so far.

Nice job on your work here, interior and engine look excellent and very neat.
Not sure about the chassis problem though, maybe it might be ok once it all gets clipped together with the body on.

Lookin good! Does it sit with a wheel off the ground? You may be able to disquise the warp by shaving a bit off the bottom of a tyre or fiddling the suspension a bit?

Re: 2005 Chrysler 300C Custom
Heres an idea that you don't want to hear. take the frame, and run it under hot water, flex the frame till it sets flat, then run it under cold water to set the plastic, thats the only way i know to get a warped frame right, nice work by the way...

Re: 2005 Chrysler 300C Custom
I have used a hairdryer on its highest setting to unwarp a frame, but it needs to have weights sitting on it to keep the shape. I've also tried the hot water trick (almost boiling) and had good results, but be careful not to burn your fingers (like I did).

Re: 2005 Chrysler 300C Custom
Thanks for the tips guys. I guess pulling it apart to fix the problem is the only way to go. there isnt that much in it anyway. The joys of modelling.

Re: 2005 Chrysler 300C Custom
if the warp is not too bad i will use superglue to stick it to the body as long as the warp is only minor the supeglue should hold it together

Re: 2005 Chrysler 300C Custom
When I did the test fit the front bumber missed the connection points with the chassis and I had to bend it too far for glue to hold it but the strange thing is when I look at the chassis on its own, i cant see any warpage. Maybe its a casting issue, but doesnt matter. I will get it to work one way or another.
Cheers for the tips again though guys. Its much appreciated. I want to finish the Superbee and the Mustang before I get back into this one. Maybe another year. lol
