Painting Flames
Howdy all!
I guess most of you have seen the flamed cars that I've posted in the showroom from time to time. I've finally gotten around to doing a "How To" on how to! I decided it's easier to do it in video form, it can be a little hard to describe in words. I haven't got video of the actual painting process (stills only) as I couldn't film and paint at the same time, as I'm not an octopus.... (also, my painting area is a pig sty and it's embarrassing)
So without further procrastination..... enjoy!
Feel free to ask any questions!

Re: Painting Flames
Nah, man, I'm just fast..... I sped some bits up by 10%, otherwise the vid is too long. No one wants to hear my voice, I'd be stammering like Porky Pig! How'd you like my generic rockin soundtrack?? YouTube wouldn't let me use Light my Fire by the doors.... Bloody Jim Morrison....

Thanks for putting that up mate

Re: Painting Flames
Thanks Chris - that's awesome. I'm still working up the confidence to tackle my Chevy but hope to get it painted before the end of summer.
What's the car in the video? Would the same mask work on a 300C?

Re: Painting Flames
No worries, guys!
Bryce, the model in the video is a 59 Chrysler Imperial. And as luck would have it, both cars are almost exactly the same size! I'd actually designed the mask in the video to be a generic large car mask, so it should work for most Chryslers, Impalas, Fairlanes etc.
Also doing the same for smaller cars, Mustang, Camaro etc.
Give it a go, it really is pretty easy!

Re: Painting Flames
Awesome flame tutorial Chris, thanks for showing how it's done. You make it look so easy. Not sure if I could make it look that sweet since I still paint in the stone ages (spray cans). But I'd love to give it a go. What's the stencils made from? Looks like it could easily be used for other designs.

Re: Painting Flames
What nice hands you have Chris...
Good little movie. Makes it look easy. I think leaving out the painting is the right thing to do as you run the risk of getting lost in the how tos of airbrushing and losing the focus of the tutorial. Which is of course to sell your masks.
"Hood" grates, but you want to sell to seppos so I understand why.
2 thumbs up from me.

Re: Painting Flames
Thanks guys, appreciated!
Clutch, I'm going to look into doing some simpler designs that will be more suited to cans, the need for an airbrush does limit it's usefulness to lots of people. Also looking at some scallops too. The masks are in a vinyl mask film with removable adhesive.
Zen, I only use palmolive liquid when washing the dishes.... And I agree with the hood thing, I really thought long and hard about it, I'd rather stay Aussie, but as you say, the big market is the US (and surprisingly the Scandanavians!!)
Thanks again!
