Ford 1950 F1 pickup.
Hi all, here's my first WIP on this forum. It's the Monogram kit, going to be almost OOB, just lowered, wheels and a slight widening of the rear guards. I got it off eBay half started, I managed to disassemble most of it OK, but I couldn't get the engine apart safely, so I will have to do a lot of tricky painting :| . Progress so far.....

Keep at it! The old Ford pickups are an underrated vehicle and can look great even with mild customising.

Re: Ford 1950 F1 pickup.
Great start and like the others i feel this is a cool subject. Nice pick Bryce that is one tough looking machine.
Re: Ford 1950 F1 pickup.
Great pic, thanks for sharing!! I'm at a crossroads, because I haven't cleared it yet, but it looks pretty nice as it is with the satin finish. I'm seriously considering leaving it satin.....I just don't know. Also wondering about the sidestep (is that what it's called?), whether to leave it body colour, or black, or BMF??? Opinions welcome!!!
The guards are already done, and the front bumper has been deleted too. The chassis and mechanicals will be the same colour as the engine, and I think the interior trim will be maroon/burgundy, but that's still up in the air too.

Re: Ford 1950 F1 pickup.
nice lookin project you have goin here, i like the satin look with that colour and the steps could look good with some strips of BMF to break up the colour. keep these pics comin champ...

They're called running boards and I'd paint 'em body colour. And I'd put the clear on and a big set of wide whites with trim rings and baby moons but that's just me...

Re: Ford 1950 F1 pickup.
I added the wood bed, using tamiya acrylics and some gold foil from a block of chocolate, yum yum! This was the first time I have needed to paint wood trim, it was fun. The cab needs to be repainted, something fell on it and chipped the paint, not much else to show, I just made up a double carb adapter and borrowed some carbs from an old amt kit, as this kit only has a single carb option.

Re: Ford 1950 F1 pickup.
I decided not to chrome the running boards, mainly because my crappy sheet of BMF doesn't have an area that large without $@#$#@ cracks in it!
Interior will be light tan to match the colour of the bed.
Chassis is almost done, I have to reattach the engine bay sides which I chopped off for the modifications to the front suspension.

Re: Ford 1950 F1 pickup.
I went to Model Expo today, my first time. Now I'm inspired again, so today I did some work! Lots of clear coat, and some detailing, wiring and so on, then a mockup just for fun
I know I have a problem with the clear on the door, I will sand it out and re-coat it.

Re: Ford 1950 F1 pickup.
I used Powerplus clear, available at Supercheap Auto or Autobarn. It seems pretty good, if a little hot.
