You're a bloody legend Carps - fantastic build mate. The underside is just superb and the stance perfect. What wonderful nostalgia for me.

Re: '48 Ford F1, Mild Kustom Pickemup Truck.
Thanx guys.
This really is a good kit and fun to build although this was built from the latest 'yellow' version which may explain the small problems I had with final fit up.
The glass is a little tricky to glue in place, so I taped it on the outside and that seemed to work well. I was a bit worried that it may dislodge when installing the interior 'tub' but that went in perfectly with each piece of g;ass sitting neatly exactly as it was meant to be. So a big sigh of reliefe there.
The fender and bed assy located perfectly onto the chassis with all three locating pins clicking into place and life was all good. I did notice that the chassis seemed to be slightly misaligned at the rear but all else was as it should be and I gave it no more thought.
The assembled body droped straight onto the locating pins and it was all done. Only one problem, it seemed to not be aligned perfectly at the front fenders. A check of the underside showed the floor was attached corectly to the pins and sitting neatly on the chassis rails. The only thing I can think is wrong is that maybe the chassis is slightly buckled or perhaps the fender and bed unit, although they seem to be perfectly mated at the locating pins. Could be that one part was and when I glued them together the entire assemble was twisted slightly.
Oh well, too late to cry about it now and I'm happy with how it came out for a quick four weekend build.
For those who need more details.
Body Mods:
Filled front fender seams
Dechromed and filled hood
Frenched headlamps (cut from gille and mounted from behind the panel)
Front bumper from stock version of AMT '41 Plymouth coupe.
Firewall sanded clean and flat panel attached for custom look.
Rear fenders radiussed to match tire.
Lincoln Cosmopolitan tailamps from Revell '49 Mercury kit.
Exhaust tips are larger injector stacks from The Partsbox (MoonePonds Models)
Wheels:
Amercian D Spoke wheels from revell Deuce 3 Window
Front tyres are resin from The Partsbox (Moonee Ponds Models)
Rear tyres are Firestones from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland.
Kit wheel backs were modified to fit.
Drivetrain:
Blown 392 Chrysler hemi from Revell '41 Willys Street Rod version. However, with carbs and that beautiful scoop it wouldn't fit under the hood and I didn't want a hole with scoop sticking through. So..........
Enderle injector hat from The Partsbox (Moone Ponds Models) with scratch built base and fuel distribution block.
Fuel filters on firewall are from the '41 Willys kit
Acellerator linkage/cable scratch built.
Engine wired incl alternator and fuel system plumbed
Header to exhaust pipe connectors made from solder
Prop shaft is plastruct tube with whitemetal universal joints from The Model Car Garage
Diff is from the kit.
Chassis Mods:
Used lowered springs from the kit
Both front (stock axle not the one for big wheels) and rear axles mounted above the springs.
Steering modified to mount above the springs & drag link cut apart and reversed to fit.
Extended lower shock mounts scratch built and attached to front axle.
Interior:
Stock dash and steering column.
Steering wheel from '49 Chev (drilled) with pearled rim (done by using combination of silver and gold flakes under multiple coats of candy red).
Dash & door trims painted testors gold 'flake
Dash detailed with chrome foil, lens over dials.
Seats are kustom pleated buckets from AMT '66 Buick
Pleated console from AMT '49 Merc (cut down to fit)
Ratchet shifter from The Partsbox (Moonee Ponds Models)
Tach from some obscure old race car kit.
Paint:
Pretty much everything was painted with Testors Gold 'Flake.
The body colour is two coats of Lexus Fire Red Pearl Mica (it's like candy apple but with gold, silver and Purplepearl through it).
I stopped at two coats because the red was looking good but the gold flake still showed thru under certain lighting.
All covered with three coats of Testors Wet Look Clear.

Re: '48 Ford F1, Mild Kustom Pickemup Truck.
Nice work Carps. I still hate the front of these trucks but the rest looks real Koooooool!
What do you use to paint the inside of the cab white? This is one of those tasks I hate doing and am always looking for a better way.

Re: '48 Ford F1, Mild Kustom Pickemup Truck.
Thickened acrylic, it's easy to clean off if you get a little over the edges onto the outside.
I use talcum powder to thicken it.
If you're good, I may let you have some of the red. I've just ordered another car the same colour.

Re: '48 Ford F1, Mild Kustom Pickemup Truck.
Nice one - what a great tip. Glad I asked. Do you use regular Tamiya acrylic or actual artist's paint?

Re: '48 Ford F1, Mild Kustom Pickemup Truck.
Mostly Tamiya Acrylics Bryce, in the little jars, although I do have some Humbrol and art store stuff too.
I've been using the Humrol spray can acrylic blacks to good effect (Gloss, Satin & flat) one or two coats pretty much covers anything and the satin sprayed directly onto bare styrene is great for convertible tops or other grained surfaces.
Might even try the colours now that they are becoming available.

Re: '48 Ford F1, Mild Kustom Pickemup Truck.
You know my opinion about the way the front of these look but that's a cracking build Carps.
Those rear lights look like mk 1 Cortina but being Lincoln I suppose there is a family resemblance.
Nice work. I look forward to seeing it at Ballaarraat

Re: '48 Ford F1, Mild Kustom Pickemup Truck.
So how do you stop the Tamiya acrylics from drying too quickly? I find when I try to brush paint it comes off when I try to recoat.

Re: '48 Ford F1, Mild Kustom Pickemup Truck.
I only use one coat and apply it as thick as it'll go on.
It's not always perfect but for roof linings etc. slightly imperfect doesn't show up so much.
