Antique Archaeology VW
Quite typical of me, shelve one unfinished kit to start another when inspiration hits. If most of you on the forum are like myself, you would probably know of the tv show American Pickers. Well, in the model cupboard I had a VW transporter ute. So I thought, what the f&%k, I'll build the American Pickers VW.
Heres the original.
After giving it a spray of paint I then realised that my VW was different to the show. Mine had louvres above the rear wheels and only 2 on the panel in front of the rear wheels. Today I filled the louvres over the wheels and made the additional louvres for in front and the 8 behind the rear wheels. Hopefully sand, prime and re-sand tomorrow.
I lowered the VW to match the original and also made a start on the roof rack. The barwork on the front bumper might be a bit tricky but I'll get it done. The top photo shows Frank in his Fairlane, I have a kit of that as well (might have to do it too).

Hasegawa?
I've got a 23 window bus in my stash that'll get pulled out when I can face detailing all those seats.
I've only caught bits of this show but what I have seen leaves me feeling sorry for the hicks who didn't know what they had.

Re: Antique Archaeology VW
i'm thinking of doing the American Picker's Mercedes Sprinter Van
unfortunately there's none available in 1/25 scale. nearest i found was a friction drive toy ambulance in about 1/36 scale, which i built as a desk model for our pilot's birthday (he was also the bus driver)

Re: Antique Archaeology VW
I know that the wheels are different. Had a look at the Samba bus wheels and they are right BUT too large for this one. They look out of scale as opposed to the kit wheels. Don't know if I can fill the slots in, might have to just deal with what came in the kit unless someone out there has some more appropriate wheels from another VW???? This is based on the Hasegawa kit.

Re: Antique Archaeology VW
Pervert huh - I resemble that remark!
But you're quite correct Rob - it is a VW Transporter and not the Antique Archaeology Mercedes van. Can you forgive my slip-up? Blame this little filly (Danielle) instead.

You know Rob, a VW Transporter. It's the truck that leaves the VW factory all loaded up with VW's.

Re: Antique Archaeology VW
OK...wise guys. Technical name is the Volkswagen Single cab. First produced in 1952. So it's not a ute...not a pick up...not a transporter...but a single cab...sometimes referred to as 'Dropgate' truck. Check it out here.

Re: Antique Archaeology VW
After all this talk I've forgotten what the hell I am building now.
I remember, I am building this. The VW, not the bloke in the brown jumper. Its the VW from the show American Pickers.
If you watch the show they sometimes also dig up Vespa scooters like this:
I have the roof rack built and plan to get some more done on this one tomorrow. I will put some pictures up then. Until then, study the Vespa and the unique flame job that it has.
