'36 ford 3 window coupe
First one on the bench for 2012.
Using 3mm green tape as my chop lines, I gave the body a full 4mm chop using the top piece of tape which goes around the rear and the bottom piece of tape was used to give a 7mm pie-section chop. That's 7mm measured at the door hinges, by the time the angle reaches the grille, I'd say the pie-sectioned will be more like a 11mm forward rake. Indicated chop lines with red arrows.
Chopped the roof, got the body back together,
Looks a lot different now,
One of my favorite things about the '36 is how the door line flows into the rear body line. Because this kit is optional hardtop, convertible, I've had to glued the hardtop to the body. This left a nasty join line on the top portion of the doors. Happens to be right on the flowing body line. I've done some filling and sanding but I have much more to go!
Also thinking about widening the rear fenders.

Wow what a hackup, looks good now though. Yeah I'ld widen the rear fenders a bit too.
Re: '36 ford 3 window coupe
Nice work - will you be modifying the front grille also, or are you planning something else?

Re: '36 ford 3 window coupe
Thanks guys, fenders will be wider.
Tezza, Did a bit of work on the grille tonight, at this point I'm using the stock grille, just cut down. But that may change. The piece of grille I removed measured at 9.5 scale inches. That's a pretty big pie-chop when you think about it.
Not sure on colour yet Allan. Maybe metallic red.
The roof seem where it joins to the doors is a real pain. I've had to sand the doors flat just to hide the seem, now I've lost the detail. Now it's a matter of rebuilding that detail.

WOW! that's one serious section job. There's been a few 1/1 scale 36's done like this in recent years but not quite so radically pie cut.
Can't wait to see it finished.

Re: '36 ford 3 window coupe
This one is just about done. It's all painted, just needs to be assembled. I sprayed all the chrome work with Tamiya smoke for a different look. Wasn't sure if this big of a pie-section would work or even if I could get the engine up in there. Turned out to be pretty easy. All I did was shorten the engine mounts and shaved some off the carbs/air filters. Knocked down the rad a bit.
The '36 has a nice rear flow line, I continued that flow line around to the front using 1mm half round rod. Drip rails added.
I only use spray cans and did know if I could do this paint job. I didn't practice it first, I just went for it!
Base coat is orange with a lower white fade.
Then the moment of truth, will it work.
I covered the orange/white fade with clear orange and wahla!
Turned out better than I thought it would.
Thanks for looking!

Re: '36 ford 3 window coupe
Thanks Kane, Thommo. The first orange is TS-12, white TS-26, clear orange TS-73. (Tamiya)
Wheels; Tyres from '62 Catilina and the rims are from '32 Sedan, both revell. The chrome rims have been sprayed with clear smoke.

Re: '36 ford 3 window coupe
Awesome chopping and paint. You gotta love those clear colours as a final spray coat to change the look of a decent paint job. Love it.

Re: '36 ford 3 window coupe
I must agree, thought it was going to be redone, then that orange/clear coat went down and it has turned it into an AWSOME paint job, the body choppingmutley wrote:at first I thought you stuffed the fade paint, and then with the clear orange on it, brilliant!!
and the overall stance is also brilliant mate, VERY WELL EXECUTED.

Re: '36 ford 3 window coupe
Thanks guys, glad you like it!
Yeah, I didn't know if it would work out or not. When it was just white and orange, I thought it looked like a Paddle-Pop ice cream . i was tossing up between this orange paint job, or a green fade. Metallic green with a bottom silver fade, then hit it all with clear green. Hummm, still sounds like a good colour combo.
Cheers!
Joe.

This one is also done.
Finished it off by fitting the interior
Dressed up the rear end with a '48 Ford badge and square tailpipes.
Finished pics in the showroom.
