1955 Nomad Gasser
After seeing Carps' Gasser I thought I would have a go myself. Started with the AMT 55 Nomad as it came with the gasser style front end. Engine is a 409 Chev from the spare parts box, will have blower, injection and Mad Max style scoop. Rear wheel arches have been cut out for the big wheels. Rims and tyres are also from my parts box. Colour choice is green mixed with some other colour???
Hoping to have this one, my Antique Archaeology VW and the Shelby Mustang all fininshed for next months Rocky NNL. Best pull my finger out.
Before wheel arch being opened up.
After
Chev 409
The stance.
The engine.

Re: 1955 Nomad Gasser
Well unfortunately I didn't get this one or the VW finished for this weekends Rocky NNL competition. I could rush it just to enter it but it wouldn't be to my standard. Its well on its way but it needs quite a bit more yet. I need to turn up some blower pulley's, distributer/magneto and wiring, scratchbuild the injection, chrome the body, fuel cell/moon tank, seatbelt harness, parachute, come up with a cool name for it and all the finer details that go with it. So heres some tease pictures.

Lokin' good there Dufas.dufasdave wrote:.... will have blower, injection and Mad Max style scoop.
Here's a little info that may help you.
That scoop is actually a Scott Injector scoop, it worked like the original bugcatcher scoops but without the butterflies. It's also perod perfect for your engine choice.
To make it appear more accurate, cut a bit of 1/16" thick flat plastic sheet to fit the injector mounting flange on the blower. Glue the scoop directly to the top of the sheet, a little filler will help ensure the new 'nozzle plate' looks integral to the scoop as it is in real life. Now build a small distribution block and mount it to the back of the injector. It should have four hoses coming out each side that you need to connect to the 'nozzles' along each side each side of the piece you added to the injector scoop. Once plumbed, then attach the injector and disribution block assy to the blower, connect up the fuel inlet hose (from the injector pump into the top or back of the distribution block) and away you go.

Re: 1955 Nomad Gasser
Thanks Carps, I was going to plumb the fuel lines into the bottom of the intake tubes where they go into the top of the blower. This will change my method. I have looked at that many different injection styles/gasser's and no 2 have looked the same to me. Each one ran different styles of injection, distributer/magneto, radiators or not. There seemed to be no right/wrong way to build one. Any input from anyone that knows alot about gassers would be appreciated so that this build looks authentic. Thanks.

Re: 1955 Nomad Gasser
I just google imaged it and the ones I found only have 1 fuel line per side of the injector plate, could there have been different variants of this scoop/injector plate???
If I change to this style the scoop will actually be lower than the top surface of the bonnet. Hmmmmm choices/decisions!

Re: 1955 Nomad Gasser
I have gone back on my word about the VW, got nothing done to it today. Instead did a bit more on the gasser. Interior pretty well done, paint done, now up to making magneto, blower belt drive pulleys on the lathe. Detail the engine and assemble.

Re: 1955 Nomad Gasser
Being of no help at all on the injector front, I found something like four different setups for the blower/injectors for the Wild Willie Winged Express in photos on the web. i think that it was a time when everyone was trying anything & copying anything that worked. I would find a period photo that is close to your compnents & you like the look of & use it.
Congrats on the paint job & on the concept.

Re: 1955 Nomad Gasser
Nota, I have looked at numerous gasser engines and I think your right as everyone used different styles of injection. I am going with a Scott injection system and have a number of reference photos to go by, but thank you for your input. This is the style I am copying.
