Robby Gordon's 1994 Valvoline Lola Indycar
I have pulled out this old Tamiya Indy Car which was originally Mansells 1993 title winning car. I was never happy with the look of it and wanted to do something different with it. I have this decal sheet and i always liked the colours of this car, and after attending the Gold Coast race i was pleased to know that these decals existed. I am doing the pre-season look for the car and that was basically a 93 Lola, i am not trying to be fully accurate with it, i just wanted to make something decent from an old kit.

I have started rubbing it all back, i tried putting this in a bath of caustic soda but i always find Tamiya paint does not seem to be effected by it, so i have been sanding away. As you can figure this was not a build to be proud of. I am almost at the stage where i can get a dust of primer onto these parts.

Lookin' good so far Shayne. It's a real challenge to "rebuild" an old build so good luck.

Brake fluid is your friend if you REALLY dont like sanding!
This looks good! I cant wait to see it finished. Can you post a picture of the turbo? I'm curious to see if they are any good for kitbashing.

RS2000 i would not used this turbo for anything else, you would be better off with one from the AMT or Monogram Indy cars from quite a few years back, better detail or even look at the F1 Renault/BMW from Tamiya.

Looks promising Shayne. Have you built any of Revells Indy Cars ?
I think they were 1/24 scale though.
Adrian.

Hi Adrian, i have not as yet done any of the Revell ones, i did build the AMT Penske awhile back and did it as Emmo's 1989 Indy winner. I also have the March to do as Tom Sneva's Skoal version.
The Revell ones look nice and easy as they have no engine detail etc.

definetly try the brake fluid bud, works really well and has no ill effect on your parts...

I have used brake fluid once on a Monogram Nascar body and found that the plastic crazed a little, hard to expplain the look of it but sort of semi melted. It had kept its shape and all but just was not a good look.

Funny you say that Shayne - I have had similar problems with the brake fluid. Thought I must have done something wrong...

Re: Robby Gordon's 1994 Valvoline Lola Indycar
im sure that the crazed effect you mention is actually caused by the paint and thinners rather then the brake fluid...

Re: Robby Gordon's 1994 Valvoline Lola Indycar
I will see if i can find the body and get a pic of it, maybe hard as it is white plastic but i shall try.
Re: Robby Gordon's 1994 Valvoline Lola Indycar
So after a long gap between working on this one I have now painted the body panels. I used Testors Blue Angel blue as I was told it is a good match for Valvoline blue, the white is Tamiya spray. This build will basically be a shelfer, so I shall rub these down a little, clear coat and that will be about it. Just nice to get some paint on it to hide the awful previous job.
