XB GT Sedan and Police
Pre Build Review
1419 - XB GT 4-door
The kit arrived in a small white box with a sample build of the kit on the box, in the box is the body, interior tub and flat chassis, also some baggies of small parts, rims, wheel backs, four black resin tires, clear headlights and also an antenna with metal whip/resin base. The police version also includes roof siren, rack and red/blue light covers and instead of the multi-slot rims they include a set of sunraysia style rims.
Also included is a clear sheet for the windows, a template to cut them out, and single page instruction sheet. The body for the stock version was free of bubble or sink holes on the outside, and only two holes found on the police version that will need fixing. The body will require you to cut out the windows and clean up the fenders and sills, which i recommend a motor tool for this job.
The separately purchased Decal sheet looks good, includes dash, bonnet (hood), boot (trunk), grille/fender GT badges and stripes for both GS and GT351 versions. The police version decals includes markings to create your own 'Dark One' version.
Pros
Accurate looking body
Quality cast
crisp sandable resin
Cons
Windows not cut out
lots of clean up needed
window glass not pre-cut or vac-formed.
instruction sheet lame
interior detail soft
Decals separate purchase (probably good if you don't want them).

Re: XB GT Sedan and Police
Ok, so down to the build. I started first with a clean up. I used my dremel cut off bit to start the cuts for removing the flash (bits left over from casting) including the hole for the rear bumper and the window blanks. i used the 1/4 inch drum sander bit to clean up the wheel arches, giving it a bit of angle to hide the thickness of the resin. I had a tiny grinding bit that i used to clear out the smaller areas, final clean up with the hobby knife.

Should be interesting.

Re: XB GT Sedan and Police
The built up red one on the website ( www.thepartsbox.com ) almost got me to slap down the cash.
Can''t wait to see how this turns out.

Yeah it certainly looks like a XB Falcon, but it's certainly not based off actual measurements when you look at it and the Mad Max Police ones not real accurate to the movie cars either. But than again I'm a Holden fan.
Looking forward to how seeing how this one goes together.

..............to me these just don't look very well proportioned, but then again that's pretty normal with most aussie resin..........hence why you won't see me wasting building time on them

Re: XB GT Sedan and Police
Proportionally I dont think an XB front guard is the same length as both the front and back doors put together and there's a lot more inaccuracies I think.

They don't look too bad. they are a lot easier to recreate than the HQ Holden.
This is my version of the XB done back in 2006
if I could start again I would change a few things with it.
but it's only a Ford so thats not gunna happen.
I built these to resemble showroom brilliance.

Gotta agree there Checkmate, I did notice that the roof spoiler and flares are not really right. Where the C-pillar sweeps down to the 1/4 panel looks odd too.

That's probably a smart move. It's always dissappointing to splash out the cash only to find that it's more work than you really expected for the money that you paid. Ever wonder why no one has actually built a TPB XT Falcon?
I'll keep an eye on this thread and I can't wait to see how it turns out

Re: XB GT Sedan and Police
Looks all right to me but then I didn't grow up with these and it's not like you see them on the road every day.
However, i'm the last person you'd turn to if you wanted accuracy.

Re: XB GTSedan and Police
Top job on the review on the TPB XB. Suprised to see it had moulded in windows. Strange that it"s that far out from the real thing, but it's still an aussie car scale model and scale modeling is a form of sculpture. Just a thought though - if your putting a motor in, you could cut and shut one to fill the longer engine bay?? and maybe a little widening of the vee to make it extra tuff????? Can't wait to see some colour on this one!
