Mr Excitement's Camel Power
I have started doing this version of Jimmy Spencers 1997 Ford Thunderbird.
I will use Tamiya Chrome Yellow & Testors Boyds Purple Grape for the colours. I have strated cleaning up the body and filling the gaps from the nose clip & rear bumper, plus drilled out the hole for the fuel filler.
I have also been doing the chassis and have cut the front bars off to make it easier to clean up the firewall, and removing all the wonderful sink marks.
Thats it for now, i hope to get it into primer soon.

Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Cheers Bryce. Jimmy Spencer got the name as you never knew what he was going to do. He would wreck someone this week, win a race the next from no where and would always say what was on his mind, and Nascar would fine him for doing so.

Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Jimmy Spencer was a wild card without tact or diplomacy and in some cases, without respect for others, but he was certainly "exciting" by way of his unpredictable nature. I believe he is now a commentator for NASCAR TV racing? That Camel T-Bird was certainly well known in its day Shayne, so it's a good subject to build. Looking forward to progress on your masterpiece.

Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
I got around to getting the first coat of paint onto the body, Tamiya Chrome Yellow (which still needs to be cleaned up). The next colour will be the Boyds Purple Grape i have for the nose once this has gassed out a little. Then i will decide if i use the decal for the orange or spray it.
Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Today being my last day of holidays i managed to get the purple on the hood. I first hit this area with flat black as my base, then i used Testors Boyds Purple Grape, it may not be the correct colour but i like it. I just took the tape off and thought i would let you guys see it.
Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Great start so far and good to see thoughs stupid roof flaps are not in the up position like almost everyone else does, it wa stated in a SAE Issue about this one time and the writer said the only timr they should be up is if you are doing a Dio of the car going backwards at 190m.p.h. and who doe silly dio's like that anyway. Waiting for the final model it will look great. Luv the paint job so far.

Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
I have been busily working on the chassis for this one now. And like others i am sick of seam lines and sink marks. I have taken the firewall and cleaned it up fully, i will now glue the front frame back on and get this into primer.
Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Must surely get a bit boring working on what is essentially the same kit each time...? I know I get a bit burnt out if I build too many of the same thing and have to spend time correcting the same flaws over and over...

Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
I guess all kits are the same to a point Bryce. Chassis, body, poor quality from Revell, i have even had a Tamiya kit which needed so much work done it was not funny. But at the end of the day this is what makes us keep going....
Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
I have managed to get the orange strip done so the body is now finished and awaiting decals, plus i now have the chassis painted so i can start assembling the rest of it.

Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Geez Shayne that's coming along just great. I don't believe it matters how many times you build the same kit, so long as you get enjoyment from it and improve your skills base each time. Now having said that, I used to take a break from modelling the same thing (cars) and occasionally build something completely different, such as a truck or motorbike, a figurine, an aircraft or ship. That way my modelling skill was improved through learning different finishing techniques such as weathering, etc.

Nice. The colours are great, the orange stripe looks really good with the yellow and purple.

Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Decals got done last night, wife was away on business so i had my time...lol
I have all the main ones on now, just need to source a few others that are missing. They were a real pain to work with, quite brittle & did not like being moved once down, not sure who did them. A couple of small issues with the side numbers being a tad too small & the Camel logo on the hood was too large but i can live with it.
I love how the green jumps out from the yellow & purple.

Cool, that green certainly jumps out. Nice decaling.

The car looks great so far, I can never get bored with the stuff I love to build. But then I never build two old cars the same anyhow.

Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Well a little dark out now but a couple of pics to show the clear is now on and i feel looks good. Once my in-laws leave next week i should be able to get back to doing something on this again.
Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
Another that I have been able to get some progress on. This turned into a nightmare as I had some bubbles in the 2K and when I rubbed it out I touched one of the decals, after a quick repair I hit it with another coat of 2K but I am not happy with the finish. So just wanting to get this completed I have decised to finish it up and get it on the shelf.
Re: Mr Excitement's Camel Power
almost missed this one, tops.
