'32 Hemi Bomber
So.. my '32 Coupe Arrived today.
:-D
Now - I should really plan this one before I jump into it..
Oops. Too late.
I have started the Assembly of one of the 426ci HEMI donks I have.
Yes it's gold - No it'm not changing it from Gold.
And No - I don't have Alclad - I wish I did, but I don't - If I did - It'd still be this gold - but with Chrome instead of Gunmetal, or mildly bright silver.
ANYWAY.
I opened the box and I found that the Doors - are Suicide doors.
I don't like Suicide doors.
Cleaned all the flash and mold lines off the body.
Wet sanded the whole thing.
I'm going for a really low, chopped, old-school look.
Still deciding on bare metal - or painting it up like an old WWII Bomber with the shark teeth and everything.
Hemi Powered '32 Ford, Dumped on it's guts.
With the skinny tyres it's getting - It'd be a whole bundle of fun if it were real.
:-D

I would not be worried about the suicide doors mate! The suicide motor is more of a concern hehehe !
I love the 32's ...just so much you can do with them !

Paul, I like the way you think. :-D
I've almost finished the Seats for it.
I'd buy them and be Cheap - but where's the fun (and yelling..) in that?
I've progressed a little more since that shot - like - added the single end brace - then I have to add the bucket - but I dunno how that'll work yet..
Yep - I did.
What - about a scale 6" worth of raise in the base?
So - that means the sides of the body come down past the rails.
Gonna cut the base of the door trim, mod it a little bit, add a piece of round bar across the top and all the way around the back to go over to the other side too - like one big tube seat. Holding two tube frame seats.
Going for the bomber Interior like that, so exposed metal, a bit of wood here and there, with a flight harness for the seat belts.
Just a written taste of things hopefully to come.
Still haven't worked out body colour yet.
Wondering if I should add a Machine gun to the nose - or if that just add a little too much weight to the visual design.
EDIT: I think I'll leave the Suicide doors actually.
When they open (IRL) they'd add to the overall "War Plane" feel. Like a Cockpit Canopy.

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
Ok - So I scrapped the Seat Idea - even though they were pretty much done...
In Favour of Shelby Bucket seats.
They fit perfectly, and look the part, because they look like B25 seats - sort of, nothing an old school style harness can't fix. :-D
Anyway - Bare metal interior with the Obligatory Pugly-green leather trim with bare metal all over the place. Wondering if I should use these mini I beams I have - as I'm running out of round bar thanks to my previous Bomber seats.
Such is the joy of Modelling I guess.

Indeed, right you are. This phrase can apply to just about any part tooIronMunkie wrote:

Are you going to keep the bonnet or have it open (engine exposed type of thing)? If you're going with a bonnet, how about some small vents somewhere like-
^NOT MY WORK^
Maybe with subtle smoke stains behind them? I reckon it'd look awesome

Wow, you've had more ideas in the last 20 mins than i have in the last month mate, machine gun a bit much IMO, but the whole concept sounds awsome , keep bouncing those ideas, you'll hit the right one eventually, looking forward to seeing where you end up.

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
I'm pretty set on one at the Moment. :-D
If I did keep the hood - which I really.. can't unless I cut down the side panels as well (now the body is dropped) - I'd do 4 individual pipes on each side... which would be the Exhaust - Just like an Old School Prop Fighter (Spitfire, BF109, etc.)
BUT - It's a Bright Gold HEMI.
Why would I hide that behind panels?
That's a No No for me.
But it might be worth a shot on the next Hot Rod I do.
Seeing as all the Hot Rods I ever think of - have an aircraft theme integrated somehow.
Metal silver body.
Puke Green/Off Brown Interior with metal inserts.
Flight harnesses.
Cut down Steering wheel to simulate a Bomber yoke (still not sure there)
Black steelies with Chrome caps that look like the nose cones that cover the centres of Props.
A Small amount of chrome here and there.
Minor Chassis Mod (Might Zed it, Might not..)
Caddy tail Lights. (That I'm pretty set on..)
So - I've got Muscle rims, and tyres to suit for Trade...
LOL - Anyone got steelies with Skinny hotrod tyres to trade?
I have an Injected Automatic Ford engine too!
Caddy tail Lights anyone?

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
Caddy tail lights from www.thepartsbox.com (or carve some from clear red sprue). They will also sell you some skinny steelies.
However, can be cheaper to get wheels & tyres from another kit off of evil-bay (such as the Revell '29 Ford RPU "r## rod" kit).
Lowering the body over the frame is called Channelling BTW.

I knew it was Channeling or something of the Like.
Don't know everything about cars.
That's why I'm only a 1st year Mechanic. lol
EDIT.
I'm wondering if I should Chop the roof...
I can do it and get it pretty spot on.
But I don't wanna have the issue with the windows. I'll leave it for now, and I'll see how it all mocks up.
Decide then.

If you are going for the bomber theme then you need some good nose art!!! Can't wait to see how you finish this one off. Good start!

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
I know, haha - but I can't pick the Toothy Grin, or a bunch of kill markings.
Kill markings would be easier, and I could get quite fancy with them.
But the toothy grin stands out.
Interior is done too by the way, pics soon. :-D

PROGRESS PHOTERZ.
Door cards.
My interior Bucket.
My dash board.
Went with a slightly metallic Silver - air brushed on.
Hand painting the Teeth - and I'll have Kill markings above the trim line.
What do you all think so far?

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
Yeah I spent a grand total of 75 bucks on the Brush - worth 110 bucks.
And 300 on the compressor.
Which is an ok compressor. But it really needs a bigger pressure tank.. lol

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
More Progress.
Got a Mock up now.
Slight engine fitment issue...
No bum tank. lol.
Ok.
I have to extend the front rails to be able to fit the Hemi and it's Front pulley and fan.
I then have to lower both the front and rear suspension - tossing up whether or not I scratch build the rear.
Front moon tank or whatever it is called, and a Propeller blade with center cone on the grille, with the nose slanted back.
I need some larger rubber for the rear.. anyone care to donate to a lost cause? lol.
Whatcha's all think?
Need some pointers here.

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
Looking good, if it were me I'd scratch the rear and lay the grill back, but I'd pass on the propeller on front. Maybe a three blade Spitfire style prop in place of the fan on the Hemi instead? Just my opinion, keep it goin mate I'm enjoying this

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
Mopar - It's be a two-bladed Prop that is Vertical with the center line of the grille. Would complete the warplane feel.
dv8v8 - I would.
But I don't think hot rods got Electric fans in the 50's - 70's...
:-P
Good suggestions.
The issue I'm having mostly is the front end, I don't have any sheet or bar that is a similar thickness to the rails, even though it'd only be a few mm, 4 to be exact.
It'd allow me to rake the grille back too. The only thing I have to do is make custom radiator lines and the custom nose fuel tank.
Then run the fuel lines to the motor and wire up the Dizzy, then chuck in two engine mounts because the stock ones were too far forward for the Hemi.
And that's the front end sorted.

Re: '32 Hemi Bomber
I have another mock-up.
Early bed time for me now.
Been up 'till 4 for the last week building this and others.
2 am should be good. haha
Anyway...
4mm worth of frame extension, not amazing - but it's cut down and matches the rail size and it's all painted now.. so....
That's how she sits right now.
Gotta add the fan, belts, pulleys and radiator line - when the Alclad arrives I can get further with all of it - for now I just have to make two engine mounts, fab the front moon tank, mock up the suspension.
Then when my Alclad arrives (with another cool Revell item.. teehee) I'll paint all the goodies underneath Chrome, and all the silver on the Hemi will all be Chromed.
And we'll see what I've got from there.
Until then - it'll be a 3 day wait or so for my Alclad to arrive - so I'll see if I finish that GTX or just knock it off to the parts bin.
Got something better in 1/24th coming to replace it anyway.
Seeing as I screwed it up. Badly.
UPDATE - 8 am, 28th July.
How she sits - front end and rear end are on for mockup.
Engine mounts are made.
More work to do.
Pics of the minor Rake on it.
Chopped about 2.5 mm from the front suspension to lower the front. lol.
Looks more like a Hot Rod now. lol.
Enjoy. :-)
Constructive crit welcome.
Really just gotta put it all together when the Alclad arrives.
But any little extra things that'd make it that little more perfect would be great.

Ok.
Almost done.
Just gotta wire up the engine, bolt it in and voila. Complete.
Underside. Nothing fancy.
Rear end, stock from the box.
Shaved off parts of the chrome, and used normal model glue to glue it all together.
Was awesome fun.
