Casting needed
I bought the RoG Kenworth K100 Aerodyne on ebay (cost me a pretty penny) just for the engine but now that I have the kit in my hands I don't really want to destory it just for the engine. Is there anybody who could cast the engine & associate parts for me? I asked Auslowe but they haven't replyed. Could i do it myself ? What cost are involved ? How hard would it be ? I've cast my own simple parts before but that was useing latex rubber & RTV silicone & this seems a lot more complicated. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Casting needed
Could we get a pic or two of the engine mate? Casting isn't too expensive/hard to get into, I paid about $60 for a starter kit from here- http://www.amcsupplies.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1757
A good chat with someone who knows the ins and outs and you'll be casting all sorts of things

Re: Casting needed
You could probably cast it in around 14 pieces if you assembled the long motor and turbos. 1 less if you made part 24 out of wire.
Don't forget to glue bits of sheet plastic behind any holes to stop the rubber from flooding the insides.
Also, when you pour the rubber, DON'T pour it over the pattern, pour it into a corner of the mold box and let the rubber slowly flow over the part. That way you can avoid bubbles forming on the surface and wrecking the mold.

Re: Casting needed
Agree with Chris there. Another way of blocking holes where you don't want RTV to get in is with klean clay (the clay that comes in the starter kit). Just roll a little piece into a ball and plug the hole, then scrape the excess off smooth. When you're done moulding, you can clean the clay off and the part is left untouched, works for me
If you find two part moulds a bit daunting you could even cast most of those parts as one part moulds. More pieces, but so easy to mould and cast even I could do it

Re: Casting needed
Thanks guys, this is greatly appreciated. I have done 1 part molds but real easy stuff, steelies, seats etc. With this engine I'm gonna be hitting way outa my league but if I want to get this rig finished & correct as possible I'm gonna have to try new things, I'm already into it for a small fortune, whats a bit more gonna hurt, good thing I'm single now (2 ex's used to complain about how much i spent on the hobby but they never went without, God love em) I'm still prepered to pay to have it cast, I'm lazy, that's why i asked Auslowe cause i thought they might want to add it to their inventory. Here's what I'm building. https://ozautobuilders.forumotion.com/t6039-1-25-bj-the-bear-wip-update-7-7-12

Re: Casting needed
I can cast 'em up for you if you're not in a hurry. I'm busy with casting and building commissions for a while so it couldn't be before QMHE.
I'll do it for free (less cost of materials) if the engines are for your own use or given away on the forum. I don't recast parts for profit- just to help out fellow modellers....

Chris, that would be awesome & it's only for my truck not for profit. Is QMHE the hobby show at the table tennis centre in Windsor?

Re: Casting needed
Yes mate, that's right. It's being held in September this time around.
I edited my last post. I meant free labour ( I usually cast scratchbuilt stuff and build on commission)- I hope you're cool with that. The amount of rubber and resin shouldn't be much.....you also get the molds when the parts are done.
Sorry about that mate...
